thirty years later
I came across these pictures of British policewomen in a self defense exhibition. In the caption of the first pic you can read the lady's name. The other pics portrait the same lady. She looks very capable and fit. Thirty years later she has become an executive of the British Red Cross. How do you think she would do today in a real fight?

Re: thirty years later
She looks pretty sturdy and she's got some meat in those legs. She may be older but I'm sure she still remembers how to fight and I think she could surprise a lot of unsuspecting guys.

Re: thirty years later
Thanks for your coments. I agree with you that she can surprise to any unsuspecting guy, but I think her style depends very much on speed and maybe she is not as fast as she used to be

Re: thirty years later
30 years is a very long time. Longer than a good amount of the session lady wrestlers alive. If she kept in shape she probably would be a tough cougar plus, but if not she probably would be in trouble.

Re: thirty years later
40 years ago, "The Mirror" -as seen on their mirrorpix site- used to feature some excellent photos for those of us who like female combat. There was a self defence piece with Linda Lusardi, I recall, and photos of Sybill Bowker giving Bobby Barron a headlock and two of Mitzi Mueller overpowering a male journo. Further back, they had features on Cathy Gale and Pussy Galore, Joan Rhodes, various stunt girls and some photos of Valerie Dave grappling with Joe Robinson and they even had some Joyce McKinney apartment wrestling photos.
"The Sun", on the other hand, in spite of misogyny and Murdoch, despite its hacks and its hacking, has a fine archive of female fighting features and photos. The now defunct "News of the World" often reported on the Martell v Mueller rivalry in the 70s and on the council bans upon the sport back then. They did pieces on how Lolita Loren would sort out the Yorkshire Ripper, on Miss Linda and in April of either 79 or 80 had a spread on Carla Sanchez and other leading lights at that time. The magazine in May 82 featured some of the Action stable such as Terri Kruger, Madam Kiss and Jodie Lee and had a photo ( much seen and appreciated on this forum and others) of Busty Keegan in a Mitzi Mueller body scissors. As a daily, the tabloid had some nice pieces on Purdey from the "New Avengers", Carolyn Seward's self defence and Lynsey de Paul's unarmed combat books and videos. The Page 3 girls got in on the act with an article about Sian Adey-Jones' catfight and pics of Corinne Russell, whom I am given to understand, has done some wrestling videos. in May 05, there was the "Big Grapple" where Nicola T gets the better of Keeley Hazell, both topless, and earlier there was a crib from "Fighters" monthly martial arts mag called "How Sam Foxes the Fellas at Fighting" featuring Sam Fox and her male unarmed combat instructor. There was also a feature on the police in the 70s showed WPCs getting the better of some of their male colleagues in self defence action. One of the paper's finest Page 1 headlines, however, was "Vivs Blitz Hitz Mitz" re: the Martell and Mueller feud CIRCA September 1977 showing a posing, glowering Viv Martell looking so statuesque that in comparison Dolly Parton would have seemed flat-chested ! |

Re: thirty years later
Possibly, the Corinne Russell video is "Fighting Bitches" which was the second feature backing "Muddy Minges", a Mistral Film from London dated 1980.

Re: thirty years later
Bringing things much more up to date, check out 5 feet 5 inches tall Lucy Garland, aged 17, who is about to take on Major Lee Rotten aka her 37 year old male trainer, Paul Ashe, at Hitchin in a mixed wrestling bout- see feature in Associated Press, "Mail" and "Sun". 43 years ago, 17 year old Elaine Shearing from Gravesend had a 4 round bout at Rainham in Kent against Mike Beasley. Fighting as the Innkeeper in October 1971, Mike beat Elaine with a figure 4 submission hold at Northfleet and £50 plus was raised for charity. I wonder what became of Elaine - the Lucy Garland of her day.
