Default Kayla Harrison makes jump into MMA

Looking forward to seeing her progress. If she adapts well, and is able to make the cut to 145lbs, a potential Cyborg-Harrison match would be very intriguing!

Well well well. We talked about this [Only Registered Users Can See LinksClick Here To Register] seems she took another look at the landscape. It's too bad she'll have to get that small, it just doesn't seem like it fits her. I wish the major promotions would start a division for legitimately bigger fighters, it would show a real contrast with the bantamweights. Best of luck to her anyway, she's great.

What a poorly written piece. Yahoo! is a joke.

"She’s keenly aware of the hype surrounding her eventual MMA debut"

Really? She's a member of malevsfemale.org? Who knew?

Cool interview with TMZ about the announcement:
[Only Registered Users Can See LinksClick Here To Register]

From The Guardian ([Only Registered Users Can See LinksClick Here To Register])

Quote:
"The move is not a surprise. Harrison has been talking about becoming an MMA fighter since she became the first American woman to win a judo gold at the 2012 London Olympics. After she won her second gold this summer in Rio she said she was retiring from judo and hinted at transitioning into an MMA career."
That simply is not true. After the won the gold, she said no such thing. Here's the video (fast-forward to 9:42):

2015 interview with NBC Sports:
[Only Registered Users Can See LinksClick Here To Register]

In this 2015 interview, she did hint at it, but that interview - along with anything she may have said in 2012 when almost no one knew who she was - took place several months before she saw Ronda get Holly Holm'ed and was reminded that she really wants no part of that. Getting hit in the face is not something Olympic-level judoka are into. BUT, I have been told by a very knowledgeable source that an athletic, highly-skilled judoka can learn to box pretty well in 6-12 months.

It is interesting that she references her personal "brand" in the Yahoo piece. I've never seen World Series of Fighting, but would love to see another promotional organization gain footing among fight fans.

Word is they're in some financial trouble. Discussed a bit on the MMA Beat yesterday and in a couple of articles. WSOF puts on good shows but doesn't have an actual female division yet and Harrison isn't looking to fight anytime soon:

"Harrison, who claimed gold medals at 78 kg (approx. 172 pounds) at both the 2016 Rio de Janeiro and 2012 London Games, said she’s excited to sign the all-encompassing deal with WSOF but believes she’ll need at least an additional year of steady training before she’s ready to step into the cage."

"I don't know if I'm cut out for a world where you get fights based on how pretty you are or how much you talk, and not necessarily what you are worth in the ring."
Kayla says it like it is!

"Is she sexy enough." A rather dumb question for referring to an athlete. And the endless speculation about Cyborg. I'll be surprised if she ever returns to the big time.

I don't think she gets down to 145. She looks too thick to lose that much to me. Same height as Cyborg (both listed 5'8), but Cyborg is pretty skinny and no boobs. I think she'll have to fight heavier.

Murr has to face off against a Judo Olympic Gold Medalist and causes a scene at a fancy cocktail party in the process.

What a waste of a potentially cool sketch opportunity. Not sure which was the worst part: the jobber's acting, the annoying guys on the microphone, or the shitty camerawork. Even at the price of "free", that was a ripoff.
