Default Wife to start lifting

Well, after many years I think that I have my wife interested in lifting weights. I'm hoping to start working with her this week. I have always told he that she has the body type that will respond very well to lifting. We will see...she is already pretty strong for not ever working out. I'll post some starting weights and see how she progress's. Currently she is 46 years old, 150lbs, 5'6"

Nice. I think it's great to encourage a lady-friend or wife to workout. I got my first GF to take up Karate cause I thought fighting ladies were hot. We never spared or anything, but I think she got up to greenbelt by the time we split. (this was back in the 80s when nobody took MMA)

and it's good to start lifting in the 40s. It helps prevent some health problems. Good for the bones and the muscles.

What kind of strength gains can she expect to make in 6 months? I'm hearing about 40%?? That would be awesome...

Jmer,

Sorry I missed this.
It is hard to say.
But I trained my wife for several years and she maxed her squat at 150 lbs and weighted 130. She was over 50 at the time.
She is older now but probably stronger.
She uses more machines to reduce risk of injury but using a squat machine she can do parallel squats with over 300 lbs. I know it is over 300 lbs because I put a scale under her feet once to get the actual weight. (her weight not included in that number)

I suspect that much of that is her own genetics.
When I get to wrestle her, I still win 90% without much effort.
When I make a mistake, she has me and grinds the holds.
Usually grapevines and matchbooks. Occasionally, she can do a banana split or spladel on me as a finishing move.

So don't push her faster than she can manage, but I'm pretty sure she can progress significantly.
