Default How do I get started with Daz3D?

I’ve seen a lot of people produce some very high-quality wrestling and fighting renders on Daz3D. Does anyone have some tips for how to get started that I might not find with a Google search?

PATIENCE lol. I use Poser for all my artwork because the DAZ renders, while undoubtedly much better than Poser's, take WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY longer. I stopped using Daz because when I sit down to do a project, if I have to set up a pose then render it and wait 45 minutes - an hour before even starting the next one, it's a major creative juice killer.

I'd say if you're looking to do several images from a sequence story, go with Poser. However, if you're just looking to do one off renders, then Daz

Yes, without question, patience. And trial and error. There is plenty of online help and instruction though.

SickleYield has some very helpful stuff (and a cool delivery):

Keep playing around, there's plenty of free stuff around for variation before you decide to spend money. And it can be a money pit if you get "addicted"!

Always save your scene before rendering as that is when DAZ is most likely to crash.

Good luck!

I'd say start off small. I tried to make photorealistic scenes right away, and while i had a lot of fun. I also was slamming my head into the wall a lot. And my early comics have a lot of errors and mistakes. So I would suggest since you want to do wrestling. Do two characters and maybe just a simple background and focus on getting good lighting and poses. And just take it one step at a time. My first comic believe it or not I didn't know how to move the eyes... So as a result the eyes were all weird looking in it and just not looking in right direction...

I agree with the previous posts. Additionally, be prepared to spend some money. Though Daz3D is free there's additional stuff you'll want to add - clothes, models, scenes, etc. For the most part, these all cost money.

Also, having an above average computer with high level graphics card is needed for the more sophisticated renders.

Finally, my biggest challenge is lighting. I spend hours just trying to get the lights right. Attached is something I did awhile back. Didn't like the lighting so I revised...this took 2 hours to get it the way I like.

Overall, Daz is a lot of fun to play around with. I got frustrated a number of times when starting out. I found that stopping at the point I became stymied and then coming back the next day with a refreshed outlook helped a lot.
