Agree it was an excellent interview. Especially good discussion of Judell's strengths and the early days. It sounded as if Sheri Whitlow actually made it to Camp Amazon but did nothing more there than possibly work out/practice a little. Would have been a historic match even if Judell did dominate. It's not as if she didn't dominate in all her other matches anyway. The story has been that Ron Dvorkin didn't want Sheri to wrestle Judell, but Judell doesn't buy that.

Interesting interview.
I believe she really was committed to wrestling, although her husband probably was more interested in money.
She of course started long before 1989, long before women's wrestling was a sanctioned sport. Strangely, she doesn't even mention that, although in a sense, she was vindicated by it in her pioneering efforts.
I believe she may have made several attempts to approach the wrestling establishment about recognition, although she doesn't mention it and they were not interested.

Thanks very much for interview with Judell. I really enjoyed it. I was a huge fan of hers and the Amazon.

There was no mention in the interview that a couple of famous pro wrestlers visited the Amazon. I believe Penny Banner and Ann Casey visited in the late seventies. Does anyone have any more information on this topic?

I think she made clear in the interview that she knew pro wrestling was completely phony and that she was not interested in getting involved with it.

But why were the best matches always pictorials and not videos? There were a # and always the story was they greed only to pictures. I would have liked to hear about these one offs that just seemed somewhat staged.

Thanks so much for the interview. I was one of Judell's first customers, starting with her films on reels before VHS was available. She was the only game in town as far as real competitive wrestling went, at least that I knew about. It was terrific for me back then to actually see my wrestling fantasies play out on film. I didn't know that her husband was writing all the play-by-play descriptions of the matches and was the prime mover of the whole thing, that was news for me. It was also interesting that she didn't seem to know what session wrestling is. Thanks again, Zweig. Judell was the real pioneer of our interest.

Marleah Rudolph, Shiela Bronson & a youngster White(?) were to pictorials with great write-ups. The Marleah was on the old Sheri Witlow Yahoo group with the full write-up and pictures. What a story and tale of what looked like a great match. Each one commented on the picture and their thoughts.

Shiela I saw only the first page and that she had trained and had a hold especially prepared for Judell, the Boulder Holder (a modified bearhug). This obviously was a continuation of the popular SRW Apartment House Wrestling stories.

Wish those questions were addressed as there never were videos of those epic matches, but the stories in actuality were probably better,

I just watched the interview and loved it ! I started to purchase tapes and photo sets from the Dulongs in the 80's. I chatted with her on the phone a few times years ago. She is the real deal. Judell just loved wrestling . Thanks again for the great interview.

By the way Penny and Ann , the pro wrestlers did go to the Amazon. But I don't remember them taping any matches.

Was I the only one finding it lacking. It was fine, but didn't really answer many of my questions wrt to pictorials vs. taped matches, the write-ups and those famous one off matches. How about her vs. Joan Wise sexuality and wrestling and her concerns over young girls wrestling?

Yup, I agree. I have a Blonde vs Brunette blog site that attracted over 150,000 page views but only a half dozen comments. So I pretty much gave up on it two years ago (even though the site is still up).

Judell's interview was great. But I was hoping her granddaughter would ask her why it is that people, especially men, find female wrestling and fighting to be so arousing.

Seinfeld once described the appeal of the catfight as "men think if women are grabbing and clawing at each other, there's a chance they might somehow, you know... kiss." While that may be funny, it clearly isn't true for most of us which is why videos don't end that way, instead they end, hopefully, with one women clearly dominating the other.

So that's a question I'd like to have her answer.

And then of course, there's the age old blondes vs brunette rivalry thing. What's the explanation for that?
