Lauren Mueller
Lauren Mueller is a bit of a looker. Anyone agree? I thought I'd start a thread to follow this exciting prospect.
She had a very entertaining scrap against Shana Dobson at the weekend. It was Lauren's promotional debut after winning her fight on 'Dana White's Contender Series' which I sadly missed at the time. That was last October and it won her a UFC contract. Dobson was looking to stick and move, use range and timing but often it was Mueller's rougher, more hardened and flat-footed approach that paid dividends, landing some hard, stinging punches. By the third round, Mueller was really going after it, walking Dobson down, hand speed and pressure. Her nickname is Princess Tiger and you could see why - stalking, pressuring, not letting her opponent breathe and looking to break her. Dobson was starting to look like a deer in the headlights, blood flowing from her nose. Now just fighting to survive in the 3rd, constantly back-peddling. Mueller is looking aggressive and predatory. More fast, stinging punches. Strong gas tank. But then Dobson hurts Mueller with a bodyshot with less than a minute to go! Mueller weathers it well, but she's weakened, can Dobson land something truly devastating? A bit of grappling, a bit of clinching, both girls fighting to the final horn. Great fight. It's 29-28 Mueller. Definitely recommend watching the fight if you haven't seen it. It's up on mma-core in 2 parts. From what I can gather, she only started MMA training a few years ago in her early 20s and made her pro debut in 2015. She's 26 now. She's not a martial arts child prodigy like Ronda or Rose and not someone that transitioned from a storied background in grappling or striking. She was a competitive Motocross rider in her late teens/early 20s. She seems to be a quick learner and I think she could give a lot of girls problems, especially if she continues to improve at the rate she is going. Dominic Cruz, who trains at her gym (Alliance MMA) alluded to her having a ground game also, even though we didn't see much of it. Her record is currently 5-0. Re: Lauren Mueller
Here's her fight from "Dana White's Tuesday Night Contender Series".
7:05 - "This girl is exciting! Holy crap!!" This fight was at 135 and Lauren took it with just one week's notice. She's not in such good shape here and kind of blew her wad, so to speak, early in round 2 looking for the finish. She should really have been able to get Velasco out of there but these are the things that will hopefully come with experience. Here's an interview after the fight with some highlights for those that don't want to watch the full fight. |

Re: Lauren Mueller
...I've never been keen on big tattoos or a lot of tattoos plastered all over a woman's body - sleeves, etc. Bec Rawlings, Ashlee Evans Smith, Megan Anderson, etc. BUT a smallish, well-placed, solid tat on a woman can be incredibly hot and enhance her attractiveness. I really like Lauren's tattoo across the front of her shoulder which says live or "love fearlessly". Yes, I have a new favourite fighter! |

Re: Lauren Mueller
Lauren's next fight will be against the Chinese fighter Yanan Wu.
Lauren is travelling to Peking, China to fight Wu in her home town. Event takes place 24. November. Interesting to note that Lauren is replacing Shana Dobson, who she beat back in April. Wu is coming off a loss to Gina Mizany. So, on paper, this looks like a winnable fight for Ms. Mueller. |

Re: Lauren Mueller
i don´t want to be rude but some of these MMA women are like the crossfit women.
Their jaws get crazy large, similar to men´s jaws, no? |

Re: Lauren Mueller
I don't see it myself, garcon55.
Jaws come in all shapes and sizes. It doesn't have anything to do with MMA or Crossfit. ...And if you're implying it must be a result of steroid use, USADA has tightened the belts significantly over the past 3 years. You can observe how fighters like Vitor Belfort and Alister Overeem's bodies have "melted" and the substances people like Jones and Machida were caught using are very, very mild PEDs. ...And caught is the operative word - USADA are hooking them like fish in a bowl if they step out of line. Gone are the days when fighters could blast heavy steroids, that's for sure. Last edited by jiminy; 20-Oct-18 at 13:37. |

Re: Lauren Mueller
Bummer. Lauren lost to Yanan Wu via arm bar.
Lauren knocked Wu down and was too hasty and wild in her ground and pound and got her arm snared. In other words, she blew it. This is one thing I really hate seeing fighters do. Do what Mark Hunt, Justin Gaethje do and just step back and demand they get back up again. They'll be on ropey legs and much easier to pick off with more damaging strikes. Anderson Silva was another one that was never in any rush to follow someone to the ground when he knocked them down. The notion of 'going for the finish' on a floored opponent is vastly overrated, especially when they're not that badly hurt and the tactic of getting them back up ASAP is greatly under-utilised. Added after 20 minutes: So fucking depressed right now. I really thought this one was "in the bag". How dare Wu upset the Princess! And it was an upset, Mueller was the heavy betting favourite. I suppose it just goes to show MMA is a sport that's notoriously difficult to stay undefeated in and those that can go on 10, 15 or 20+ fight win streaks are truly special. Lauren didn't go to Peking or give up her "thanks giving" to lose. It's going to be a long flight back to California. Last edited by jiminy; 24-Nov-18 at 12:06. |

Re: Lauren Mueller
Lauren's next fight will be against Poliana Botelho at UFC 236. It won't be on the PPV, but hopefully it will air on the prelims and not be a fight pass only fight. It's not a particularly 'stacked' card outside the main and co-main and doubt the event will do a huge buyrate anyway. Plus it's the only women's fight of the night, so hopefully ESPN will cover it.
Poliana was originally booked to face PVZ and Lauren has stepped in to replace her. Poliana is a decent fighter and this will be a good indicator of Lauren's potential and whether she has what it takes to be a top 10 Flyweight. Her loss to Yanan Wu showed her ground deficiency. Hopefully it was a good learning experience and she won't make that mistake again. I expect this to predominantly be a striking match as that's what both women have shown a preference for in past fights. Poliana has won 6 of her 7 wins by T/KO whereas Lauren has only won 1 of her 5 by stoppage, although as you can see in the video above, Velasco was probably saved by the bell and Lauren can land devastating strikes with her pressuring style. It should be a good fight and hopefully Lauren wins. |
