Default Is Boxing better than Judo for a street fight? Yes or no?

And why?

I think Boxing is because even though fights end up on the ground. Boxing truly teaches you to end a fight before it gets to the ground. While Judo is good for the ground, but the floor isn't a mat...

Just curious has grappling came in hand to anyone, in a real fight?

One of the guys did, yeah. Polish fella. Took him down. Wasnt quite Strikeforce (mutual headlocks, anyone?) but I made sure I was on top with full mount.

Judo because it is easier to take someone down than to KO.

Judo is not (really) a ground fighting art. There's ground fighting involved, but the majority of Judo is based around throws and trips from the standing position. The ground is a hard thing to land on in a lot of places and I'm fairly sure a single good throw would make most people reconsider whether they want to fight or not.

Plus, after you throw them on the ground you have plenty of chance to run away.

In any case, both are good for real world situations. Any martial art in which you spar with significant contact is good. Martial arts where you spar by waving your hands near your opponent (I'm looking at you, bad Karate dojos!) are not.

i dunno how you conceptualise streetfights but theyre not really "style-match ups". normally whoever is the bigger psycho and willing to take more knocks/hit the other guy harder will win. sure knowing how to fight makes a difference but given that these fights aren't "fair" 99.99% of the time, its pretty hard to strategise and generalise. what if you get jumped, there's more than one person, someone pulls a knife, comes at you with a glass, kicks your nuts, bites you etc etc. its not mma, its not grappling, its not boxing, its frequently just two drunk lunatics.

the best weapon is a good pair of running shoes.

I think it depends on how good the boxer is. Really good boxers only need a quick 1-2 combo.

This has alot of truth to it. Though some boxers like Mike Tyson and George Foreman were used to street fights. Especially Foreman.

Bane, sleepinbin is talking sense......but I know that won't be a satisfactory answer for you

Like all these streetfighting threads of yours, you going to have to be more specific, so allow me to do it for you:

a) two guys/one-on-one
b) equal size/age/athleticism/aggression
c) equal "comparable" level of skill in respective disciplines

It sill depends on things like ability to take a punch, surroundings etc. but if you push me to say one, I'd go for Judo. As Sammy stated, a throw onto a hard suface can end a fight. If it goes to the ground, newaza skills would prevail ie submissions/chokes.

Think about this: boxing doesn't normally prevent a clinch, does it? There's no ref to separate you on the street for a restart is there? So unless you've got Tyson-like striking, or Ali's footwork, you're probably going to get dragged down, or headlocked etc.

I've told you before, Krav Maga is more specific.
