Jobbers can fight?
So I was thinking after watching some older vids, about fighters (male and female) who tend to job a lot in non-competitive films but are, in fact, quite skilled and generally dominant in fully competitive matches (or at least seem to be)
I prefer fully competitive action, so its quite contrasting when a wrestler goes completely the other way in scripted/non-comp action. I've thought of a few, feel free to correct/discuss if you have more extensive knowledge. Frankie Zappitelli Always seems to be taking a beating from other women but I found a few old videos lurking about that appear to be competitive. Maybe its her overall size but she does seem able to impose herself on both men and women. Mutiny I may be wrong about this one but I get the impression she actually knows a lot of moves and how to properly apply them. Jasmine Chou (Academy) Only does F/F fights but this is a lady who seemed to win...if she wants to. Only got steamrollered by physically larger women. |

Re: Jobbers can fight?
A lot of the male jobbers are quite strong. Cameron Matthews overpowered me easily despite jobbing to tiny girls in MWZ vids and Steve from Athena is built like a tank

Re: Jobbers can fight?
The word "job" carries the implication that the jobber is losing on purpose.

Re: Jobbers can fight?
A good jobber is actually just as good or sometimes technically better than the opponent. A jobber has to make the opponent look as good as possible while maintaining a safe match. You are more likely to get hurt by a novice who swings unpredictably out of fear and panic.

Re: Jobbers can fight?
Kid Dynamite had a match with Ariel X where he clearly could have won. It shocked me. (and I was pissed bc it ruined all the vids where he lost bc I didn't know how good he was)
But this isn't really surprising...95% of all guys who lose to girls in these vids could win. |

Re: Jobbers can fight?
Years ago I watched Lee Price beat Ziggy in a the real match.
Then Lee becomes a jobber to many other girls she could have easily beaten...go figure |

Re: Jobbers can fight?
Some producers want 'kayfabe' (temporary suspension of disbelief), others want hardcore, and there's a whole spectrum in between. In the many times I jobbed over the years, I "played the part" 95% of the time.
The only times I really tried to fight back without using martial arts (I hold belts in 3 styles, my highest being 3rd Dan in Kempo) was once with Lee Price (I got 2 submissions, she got like 10 or 12!), Kasie Cavanaugh (she got maybe a dozen submissions, I got none, though I did manage to break her notorious figure-four), and Laura Vukov, maybe about 7 or 8 others. When I was with Mass Muscle, Ed would sometimes ask me to fight back more than other times, not often, just enough to make it look real. When I was a partner with Drew, I found that he is not only a strong and solid fireplug of a man, but he had been a skilled collegiate wrestler. We do what we do a) to please our customers' demands, which arguably can be all over the map, just read a few threads here at MvsF and diverse preferences become obvious; and b) to satisfy our own fantasies while making a few bucks at it. I prefer fantasy and domination to competitive wrestling. So "that's what ah do." |

Re: Jobbers can fight?
Yeah, being a professional jobber requires skill, that's not a surprise. When I look at videos of my sessions I'm not convincing enough to be a full-time jobber in a lot of them even though I'm really losing.
