*The way* she went 5 rounds strongly suggests she has no meaningful advantage in the standup against Rousy. A lot of mediocre fighters took great champions the distance because they could take a beating. And that is exactly what Cyborg did. If she proved anything it may be that she won't likely get knocked out by a knee to the head. Although after seeing Rousy's knees in her last fight that isn't even a given anymore. Other than being quick to recover from near knockouts Cyborg showed me nothing. What did you see from Cyborg in that fight that makes you think she has anything on Rousy? Did you see one punch knock out power from her? Did you see excellent foot work? Did you see excellent kicks? Did you even see any excellent punching? Sperior speed? I didn't see anything other than an ability to recover from a big shot. Not really something that makes me think she can beat Rousy.

All the more reason to get the fight done then. Rousey must be salivating at the prospect of fighting Cyborg and is begging Dana to make it happen.

they are different. They are not *completely* different. How one does in Muay Thai does say something about how they will do in MMA in the stand up. There is a lot of cross over. If you want to keep a fight standing up you better have some real serious Muay Thai skills in MMA. Cyborg clearly does not have mad Muay Thai skills. I don't think she can keep a fight from going to the ground.
That's the great thing about MMA, her Muay Thai skill set according to you is "mediocre" yet it hasn't stopped her from becoming one the best WMMA fighters in the world.

No, not what I was saying. I am saying she was supposed to have a substantial advantage over Rousy in that department. Enough to be the key to beating her should they ever get into the octagon. IMO Cyborg showed she does not have that advantage over Rousy. After seeing Rousy in some recent Muay Thai workouts I'm not sure Cyborg has much if any advantage over her in the standup at all anymore. Certainly not enough of an advantage to force Rousy into a stand up fight.
Workouts?? You can't be serious LOL

Also, quite significantly, what I saw was a substantial drop in Cyborg's overall athleticism. She is no where near as quick, strong or explosive as she used to be. She looked remarkably unremarkable.

Not sure how getting your ass kicked makes you look better. She got her ass kicked. That never happened when she was on roids. I suspect it's going to be a regular occurrence now that she has to fight clean.
Well I guess going up against an undefeated multiple world champ and taking hard knees and punches, not backing down and taking the fight to a decision impresses some people over others.

FYI, Cyborg is still kicking ass AFTER she got caught with roids

Yeah, what is stopping her is having to be clean of the roids. She hasn't been the best of anything since having to fight clean.

Yeah, I am. I can see a lot in a work out. Right now I would say Rousy is quicker and has better technique based on some work outs I saw. Is there work left to be done? Yep. She is still not a very hard puncher.

I guess so. Maybe some folks will be really impressed if she gets her arm bent backwards and doesn't tap against Rousy too. Looks like some people are impressed by how some fighters can take a beating.

Well I guess she beat the crap out of Jorina Baars' fists, knees and shins.

She has to win two MMA fights at 135 to get a shot at Rousy. I bet she loses one of them unless they throw her pathetic easy wins.

If she gets to Rousy I give her two minutes tops before she gets her elbow dislocated.

Cyborg's in big trouble if Ronda can avoid her punches...

I'm curious, what were the Cyborg fans saying before she got her ass kicked by Jorina Baars? Were they saying "we expect Cyborg to get her ass handed to her but it's OK because this is Muay Thai?" Who were the Cyborg fans picking to win that fight before it happened?

A win is a win regardless and she has done that.

The fact that you put more bearing on workouts as opposed to someone who has actually fought in Muay Thai fights is scary. I guess there is no limit with you Rousey fans.

Who in the 135 division beats Cyborg? I'd love to see what kind of names you bring up.

I couldn't care less who wins. I'm a WMMA fan, this fight is like the Floyd and Pac of WMMA and I want to see them fight.

I think that Ronda would win in a match vs Cyborg at 135 or 145. That doesn't mean I think Cris has no chance, as Ronda has said..."under the right circumstances"....
It's funny how many people just keep picking Ronda to lose because they hate her manners so much. They predicted she'd lose against Tate. And in the rematch against Tate. Then against Mcmann. They seem to think they can just will Ronda to lose cuz they hate her so much. If Cris is able to cleanly beat Ronda I say more power to her. Life will go on. Cyborg showed her toughness in this non-submission rules match vs Baars, an experienced, highly skilled opponent with a reach advantage. I just hope at some point Dana White will get the F out of the way and let this match happen!

Really? A win is a win regardless? Quality of opponent doesn't matter? How good you looked compared to past performances doesn't matter? I disagree. IMO Cyborg has looked very ordinary off the roids. Both in winning and losing.

I don't put *more* bearing on workouts than on actual fights. But jeez, aren't you the one saying I put too much bearing on Cyborg getting her ass kicked in an actual Muay Thai fight? So which should it be? Should I put more weight on Cyborg's clear lack of skills that we saw while she got her ass kicked in an actual Muay Thai fight or more bearing on how good Rousy looks in workouts? What exactly are we supposed to look at in sizing up these two? Last time I saw Rousy in the octagon she was knocking out the opponent that was supposed to be the most like one to beat her with Muay Thai knees.

Let's see who she fights. I'm guessing after this last fiasco she finds the easiest opponent that will get in the ring with her.

I'm a fan too. that much we have in common. Unfortunately I think Cyborg is a product of PEDs and just like Overeem will prove (and so far has proven) to be quite ordinary without them. If we were talking the roid version of Cyborg I would be singing a very different tune. that would be a monster of a challenge for Rousy although I would still pick her to win. Styles make matches and Cyborg's style is to bull rush opponents which is the last thing anyone wants to do with Rousy. I see a huge difference in Cyborg's athleticism with and without the PEDs. I see a pretty unexceptional athlete in Cyborg off the drugs.

I don't think Dana White is in the way. When Cyborg's camp claimed that a doctor told her she would die if she cut weight to 135 they put Dana White in a very difficult position. Dana White has asked Cyborg to show she can make weight twice in non UFC MMA fights because he kind of had to. Imagine for a moment if it were actually true and she did die in the octagon because she cut too much weight. So White really is doing what he has to do to protect himself and the UFC. And really he is making it quite easy for Cyborg. all she has to do is make weight and fight anyone she can get to fight her and win twice. If Cyborg is a serious opponent this is hardly an obstacle.

Let's face it, White would love to have a UFC match between Rousy and Cyborg. It would be huge.

Of course if Cyborg continues to get her ass kicked along the way the fight fans will lose interest.
