I still contend if I would have been active when Nancy wrestled and she would have wanted, I would have loved to be trapped in the world record length facescissors. She had marvelous legs!

I was always curious about the apx. 13 minute limitation of a 200 ft. reel of super 8 film versus the transition to the virtually unlimited time allowed by the video tape format. As I recall, the first few videos Judell made were around 13 minutes, same as would be on their filmed matches. I mean, did they edit the filmed matches, and use more than one camera to catch any action beyond the 200 ft. limit? I kinda doubted they did a lot of splicing in making their film masters. A million questions...

If Nancy were skilled in BJJ she would have been incredible;same for Bea Goffin.

And then boring...... BJJ skills take away from the fun of submission matches. ArielX an example of someone who is now so big & good, even when she appears in trouble I expect her to find a way out.

Interesting how no one on FD looks BJJ trained, though many are skillful. Prior to that DWW.

Agreed, and they make much more entertaining matches than the bjj expert fights

Most of Judell's videos were 30 minutes or more. Her very first video, from the fall of 1981, was between Nancy Skarvan and Cindy Brooks. The wrestling itself was only about 10 minutes, but she put about 20 minutes of interview before the match. I think a lot of people complained about that much interview, so after that there would be very little interview, if any at all. Most of her video matches after that were about 25 to 30 minutes of video. Keep in mind that for the first three or four years of after the first video she still put out a lot of matches on Super 8 that were still about 12 minutes long. Interestingly, I believe that after the Cindy Nancy release she would either record it by video or by Super 8 film, so if she recorded it by video, and it only lasted about 10 minutes, she probably didn't release it. If she used a film camera and it lasted 20 or more minutes, she probably didn't use it, she had no way of knowing in advance how long a match would last. As time went by she did more and more videos and fewer and fewer films. I think her second match with Nancy Skarvan was 20 minutes or so, and I think she released it on film, even though it was longer than the standard film of 12 minutes, but that was a very important match and was the exception to the rule.

I totally agree. That is why I prefer and predominantly watch the material that was produced before BJJ training started to infiltrate submission wrestling. As for FD I agree the girls have little or no BJJ training, and are skilled, but I do find some of their girls are overly muscular for my liking. My personal preference is a match between two skilled "girl next door" types.

The attached list of my Judell collection gives the length of each match. By way of explanation the column headed FT/V defines if that item was released as a film or video. The first one produced on video was Item 292 between Nancy Skarvan and Cindy Brooks. As someone else has noted there were extended interviews with both girls on that tape before the match. Thereafter matches recorded on video were basically just the match so the times given are fairly much the match time.

Even after acquiring a video camera Judell continued to produce many matches on Super 8 film because she claimed it was much more expensive to produce on video than on Super 8 in terms of the cost of the tapes, of duplication and postage.

One of the issues with recording on Super 8 was that, as I recall, the actual film you recorded on in the camera was only 50 Ft, and when that was full you had to stop filming and load a new film. Then to get a 200 Ft film they had to be spliced together. It could not be made longer than that because the largest reel on a Super 8 projector only held 200 Ft of film, and that is why the Super 8 releases were only 12 minutes long. However, I do believe that the matches (or at least most of them) went much longer than that. Indeed if you watch those old matches produced on Super 8 there are often clearly times when the action is not continuous and some is missing. I guess this came from trying to pick out the best 12 minutes from the match.

From memory, some time ago someone posted a question on here asking why Judell and Jack Snr got divorced. While I know the answer, out of respect to the family, I did not reply to it. Also, while I know the answer to this question, I will not be responding to it for the same reason.

While I am happy to post photos, articles etc from the days of The Amazon, which I do with the kind permission of the Du Long family, subject to certain agreed restrictions, I will NOT be posting any personal information about any members of the family. I trust members here will understand.
