2nd person...yes there is such a thing.

And, I do resent being called 'illiterate' because I write some of my stories in 1st person...
I'm not doubting you Re: '2nd person', but I don't know what it is - please provide an example of a sentence written in the '2nd person'.

Here's a whole book written in second person (they're quite rare):

i wanna say i read a story on this site written in the second person. I think it was about the reader getting beaten up by his girlfriends kid sister or some girl he was babysitting.

Thanks for that, it's an awkward way of writing, don't like it at all...

You log onto the forum, looking for any sign of new activity or interesting threads. Hmmm, do you prefer 1st, 2nd, or 3rd person POV in storytelling? You take a moment to consider. "What the hell is 2nd person perspective, anyway," you think. You wonder what could have happened to this guy to make him hate the use of the first person present tense so virulently. "Who did this to him? Surely he was scarred by reading The Hunger Games series, or something like that," you think.

But what matters more to you is this: you want to know what 2nd person narration is. You type your query into the quick reply tab, hoping that someone out there in the vastness of the information super highway might take pity on you and answer your plea. Maybe then you'll get your answer. Maybe then, you'll understand why nobody ever talks about 2nd person narration.

On a more serious note, I find it is easiest for me to write in the 1st person present tense because I don't have to waste time making sure all the tenses line up correctly. It also gives me more temporal flexibility for if I want to change something about where the story is heading. For this genre especially, so much rides on the present tense, it almost feels like you've already missed the action when you read a fight fiction in the past tense. 3rd person can be great if you don't want to worry about whether your protagonists are decent people, though. I always feel like if I'm getting into a character's head, I'm kind of merging with them psychically, so I limit any tendencies for them to do something "bad". With 3rd person characters, they could be anyone, so they reflect less on the author, imho.
