Default Has anyone got knocked out with a smother?

And if so is it relatively safe to request this from a session wrestler? If that's not the case, have any of you been accidentally knocked out staying too long in a smother?

I can’t see the challenge.
Ok, if you already are winded during the battle 1 minute can be quite long
but if you are the least bit relaxed it should take 2 - 3 minutes before you tap
and another 2 - 3 minutes before you pass out.

The average person can't hold their breath for 2-3 minutes comfortably. Some people panic and start tapping just seconds after they can't breath, but if a person is relaxed, 30-60 seconds is about as long as an average relaxed person can comfortably hold their breath.

I've always been pretty healthy and cardiovascular, but my time is about 45 seconds. Longer if I take many deep breath's first, but I generally don't do that during sessions.

With training, people can hold their breath quite a bit longer.

I agree with you that most people won't pass out in a minute.

That's a question I have too. I always assumed convulsions would come into play before a smother pass-out. Then I had a session earlier this year where it felt a LOT like I was about to pass out through voluntarily holding my breath.

I'd also heard a blood-choke was safe but not an air-choke so I assumed the smother KOs in videos were all fake.

Curious as to any information.

BTW I've held my breath for 100 seconds under a facesit before but I had to clear my mind of thoughts (as much as that is possible).

That's the theory yes. And it will probably work for people who have a basic training/skill level. But what you are forgetting is that a lot of people don't have real experience with being chocked or smothered. So when they are confronted with a technique that cuts of their oxygen supply they panic and the result will be entirely different.

These two articles have some good information, one from a Martial Arts site, the other from a Fetish/BDSM site (Breathplay/Erotic Asphyxiation) both seem to agree that the danger lies in holding too long, 1-5 minutes depending on the individual, and lack of oxygen will affect the brain and the danger of crushing the windpipe:
