Re: Alexandra "Stitch" Albu
Frank P.'s review:
Alexandra is from Russia. The last time we saw her was in 2015. Jon Anik said on the broadcast that she was finishing school. They announced her record as 6-0 but according to all records I have seen, she is actually 2-0. Her 2015 opponent was so bad she was released. So I'm not sure if she's a good fighter or not. I just haven't seen enough of her. She's a fitness model in Russia so I know she will be ripped. Kailin is from Hawaii. Her main flaw is she loses concentration during fights and that has cost her in the UFC. So I'm watching round one and it's a decent round. The thing I like about Alexandra is she punches hard and that won her the first two rounds of this fight. What I don't like about her is she's too easy to hit. There's no head movement. It's like she hasn't been taught to avoid punches. Alexandra's problems are related to inexperience. And that's good because she can improve with good coaching. In round one, Alexandra was winning with more effective striking when suddenly she pulled Kailin into her guard. Again, that's inexperience. And Kailin broke Alexandra's nose which obviously affected her endurance. But I thought Alexandra's striking was more effective so I scored the first two rounds in her favour. After the second round, Kailin got read the riot act. And she was a lot better in round three. But she didn't get the finish she needed. So I scored the fight 29-28 for Alexandra and so did the judges. It was not a great fight but it wasn't boring. Afterwards there was Twitter complaints that Kailin landed more strikes. I looked at the stats and Kailin did throw more punches but Alexandra landed more significant strikes. And that's what I thought while I watched the fight and that's what the judges saw too. Quality is more important than quantity. Alexandra went to the hospital after the fight for her broken nose. I think she has potential but she needs a lot of work. |

Re: Alexandra "Stitch" Albu
Albu has been given a six month medical suspension so she's out for the rest of the year. That may be a blessing in disguise because she clearly has a lot to work on, the main thing being (and at the risk of bringing up bad Tarverdyan memories for anyone) HEAD MOVEMENT! But she has a lot of pure athletic ability, some good natural strength and all kinds of raw toughness. This shold give her time to work on some things and hopefully we'll see her back next year a more refined fighter. I suppose it mostly depends on the level of coaching available to her in Russia.

Re: Alexandra "Stitch" Albu
I watched her most recent fight. She has potential but tends to rely way too much on her strength. She won a split decision which in my opinion i felt should have been won by the other girl.
But physically she does look great...no denying that |

Re: Alexandra "Stitch" Albu
Some of Albu's IG pics from the past 18 months.
Seems like she's having more visa issues and recently posted that she may even have to leave Russia. I'd like to see her be more active in fighting. The good thing to see is that she still appears to be training consistently and has maintained her incredible physique despite her inactivity in MMA. Re: Alexandra "Stitch" Albu
5 Things You Might Not Know About Aleksandra Albu
By Mark Raymundo Feb 16, 2019 Moldovan-born Russian strawweight Aleksandra Albu isn’t known to fight consistently as her last three fights were held in two-year intervals (2013, 2015 and 2017). But she sure makes up for it with exciting performances every time. She currently holds a record of 3-0, two of which were by stoppage. Albu was last seen inside the Octagon against Kailin Curran, who pushed her to a decision at the stacked UFC 214. And right on schedule, “Stitch” will be back for her third trip to the Ultimate Fighting Championship cage opposite Xtreme Couture’s Emily Whitmire. The two strawweight prospects will clash at the Talking Stick Resort Arena in Phoenix, Arizona, this weekend. As fans anticipate Albu’s return, here are five things you might not know about her. 1. Studies (and health) first. After finishing Lyubov Demidova at UFC Fight Night 64 by submission on April 11, 2015, Albu took some time off to finish school. It was her last year at the university and she had to defend her graduation thesis. That’s on top of nursing some injuries. Albu tore her ACL and injured her meniscus during training. In fact, she underwent surgery right after the fight with Demidova. Doctors had to stitch her ACL together, and rehabilitation took seven months. But just the same, she never stopped training except during her recovery period. 2. Yes, she got her nickname from the cartoon character. Actually, her trainer did. Unlike many fighters, her name didn’t come from the way she fights or anything like that. Her trainer said she looks like Stitch from the animated Walt Disney film, “Lilo & Stitch.” That simple, and needless to say, it stuck. Even Albu herself likes her moniker. 3. She does pole dancing. Albu is one of those fighters who regularly posts training photos and videos on social media. But for her, training sessions aren’t just confined with combat sports. The strawweight has picked up pole dancing and proudly shares her skills through Instagram. So far, the reception has been quite good. 4. Karate is her original combat sport. Most martial artists have their base art, perfecting their craft before taking the plunge into MMA. For Albu, it’s traditional karate. Albu is a Goshin Jutsu karate black belt who has won numerous national and international competitions. She is a two-time IJKA Russian champion, multiple-time Moldovan champion, and multiple-time Ukrainian champion. In addition, she also competed and won several judo tournaments. 5. She is a real fitness buff. Given her impressive physique, it probably doesn’t come as a surprise that Albu is a fitness advocate. But even before lending her skills to MMA, she was already into bodybuilding and powerlifting and was in fact a winner of the Moscow Open Championships. She is also a fitness instructor and crossfitter who strictly watches what she eats. |

Re: Alexandra "Stitch" Albu
I expected a much better performance from Alexandra against a fighter who had lost 2 fights out of 5 previously.
