Mentioning Desiree and Karen, does anyone know where i can find some of there boxing matches? Even the results would be a help.

As I mentioned in an earlier post, there were 4 boxing matches featuring Desiree that were released. Two of those were against Sherry Young and one against Alice Freeman, all of which Desiree won, and she lost against Karen. Karen had a total of 18 boxing matches released. Of those I know she had 11 wins and 6 losses, and there is one I do not know the result of. However, as mentioned previously, the number of matches released was a lot less than the total matches the girls had. For example Karen had a total of 25 matches in 1977 and 35 in 1988, while Desiree had 22 matches in 1978. What a pity they were not all released, although we would have gone broke buying them.

Thanks for all that info Ian. Absolutely fascinating. Surprised that Desiree beat Karen, though i do seem to remember another girl knocking out Karen.

I think you misread my post, because I said that Desiree lost to Karen.

The last issue of Aggressive Women was No 12, which was published in December 1980. From the March 1981 issue the name was changed to Amazons in Action (AIA). However, don't go looking for AIA issues 1 to 12 because they don't exist. Swish continued with the numbering sequence from AW so the first issue of AIA in March 1981 was in fact AIA No 13. For various reasons I was unable to get the early copies of AIA so the first one I have is No 20 which was December 1982. Film reviews from that issue are attached along with a photo from the back cover.

The quiz challenge is to recognise the two wrestlers in the photo.

Glad you are enjoying them. Many more to come as I work my way through my collection of AIA magazines.

How different a time, when this was what was all that was available to feed our interest, and a video was $50-80 per.

I remember the few stores where actual videos were available (and usually just one offs).

Unfortunately Judell was discovered much later as she was closer to actual wrestling, and usually all I found was Golden Girls badly staged matches or magazines and glossy staged pix.

Funny story was going to New York and going to one of the L.Scott stores and it was I think a camera store, with videos/magazines in one area. I walked out with some magazines and remember mostly they were Joan Wise videos, which I didn't know of and reading the cases seemed more domination then competitive wrestling.

I planned on returning to the stores and did later in the day, only to find it on fire!!!! Thus no videos to buy.

That is why when I saw the first what I thought was a real competitive submission video Beatrice Goffin vs. Ali Day I was so enthralled and taken with Beatrice. Later found out it was worked, though I am still convinced 90% competitive.

Again back then when maybe there were so few competing that one's imagination could run amok.

Would be a great pleasure seeing AiA-reports featuring Beatrice.
Thank you in advance.
