Speaking of those who dropped to 125, how about the hot and violent Valentina "Bullet" Shevchenko. who almost killed the first girl she fought at 125 because the referee was too reluctant to stop the fight even after it turned into a bloodbath. How would you like to do a session with her and her equally hot and violent sister Antonina the Panther? That would be something to write home about if you survived.

In the 135 pound class, Holly Holm, the humble but smoking hot "Preacher's Daughter" is ranked as #1 contender, but Dana seems to want her to keep fighting at 145 where she has trouble, rather than give her another shot at the bantamweight belt.

You're right, Valentina is another one. Perhaps if Pennington becomes champ and the opportunity for another title shot arises, she'd be willing to flit between both divisions, although I guess I always thought of her as a natural 125er. It seems she's first in line for a title shot at 125 and is getting impatient with Nicco Montano not signing up to fight her.

...And I don't think I'd survive such a pounding.

Strong performance by Nunes to see off the challenge from Raquel Pennington and force the stoppage in round 5.

Pennington's only real chance lied with her durability and stamina as she is not the athlete that Nunes is. In the opening round, the speed difference was clear. Pennington needed to push the pace more, but her reluctance coupled with Nunes improved fight IQ and efficiency with her energy pretty much turned the fight into a lop-sided beating.

Raquel hadn't fought since she beat Miesha Tate in November of 2016 and suffered a broken leg during that lay off. She looked rusty, hesitant and ultimately outclassed by the champion. Nunes was simply on another level.

The big talking point from this fight was that after round 4, Raquel told her corner she was 'done' and wanted to retire from the fight but her corner basically told her 'no' and to fight through her injuries which included a broken nose.

Friday night, Bellator has two good women's flyweight bouts. One is a championship fight between Champ Ilima Lei McFarlane and Alejandra Lara and the other features Val Letourneau, who went five rounds against former UFC straw-weight champ Joanna J., and Kristina Williams. Bellator has some good fights, including the best and most brutal female fight I ever saw, when Russian beauty Anastasia Yankova, came back from devastating first round injuries to win a split decision over Veta Arteaga.

Default TUF 28 selection process a complete joke

[Only Registered Users Can See LinksClick Here To Register]

The UFC was going to use the next edition of their hit reality show, ‘The Ultimate Fighter’, to establish their new women’s featherweight division but somewhere along the line, that message was lost.

On May 22 Las Vegas was full of female featherweight hopefuls as 28 of the worlds best 145-pounders were in town to try out for the 28th instalment of the promotion’s hit show (TUF 28). The fighters were supposedly there to help bring some much-needed life to the new division and help provide some clarity as to who should challenge the dominant champion, Cris Cyborg.

The building of the division seemed so important to the champion that she was there to welcome each and every single one of the female fighters to the tryouts personally. A very nice touch indeed.

Some of the names in the building on that day were very notable and included the likes of Marciea Allen (7-2), Carina Damm (23-14), Cindy Dandois (12-3), Ediane Gomes (11-4), Pannie Kianzad (9-3), Larissa Pacheco (11-2), Elizabeth Philips (6-6), Zarah Fairn (6-2), Faith Van Duin (6-3), Jessy Miele (6-3) and Pam Sorensen (7-2).

The above names should have almost been guaranteed a place in the house right? Wrong.

The UFC has seemingly decided to go down a different route. One that made them select their cast of fighters from a list of fighters who aren’t ranked in the top 10. The successful applicants wouldn’t necessarily be called featherweights as some are bantamweights who would most likely return to that weight class upon a successful UFC signing anyway. They also have been selected based on their lack of experience rather than experience which kind of makes one scratch their head especially if the winner is supposed to challenge Cyborg after the show.

Sources close to the situation and the upcoming show have confirmed that Leah Letson, Macey Chiasson, Bea Malecki, Pannie Kianzad & Katherina Lehner (who wasn’t even at the tryouts), have all been selected to be in the house. Marcea Allen is also rumoured to have been chosen but that is not yet 100% confirmed.

So what’s the angle here? Why has the promotion overlooked fighters like Faith Van Duin, Cindy Dandois, Zarah Fairn, Pam Sorenson, Jessy Miele and Jozette Cotton for the lesser known, lesser experienced ladies? Could the show be used as an actual training facility for these ‘lesser knowns’ while the promotion secretly signs the more known and ranked fighters to bolster the ranks?

As it stands right now the next show is a complete joke. Why bring the worlds best fighters to a tryout with no intention at all in selecting them? It’s a waste of everyone’s time. And I’m sure that Cris Cyborg doesn’t want her next challenger to have a record of 4-1 or under.

Cyborg is a real champion who wants real challengers and based on what we have seen and who has been selected to be on the show I can see no real challenger coming from the list. All are great fighters yes but if they stepped into that Octagon with Cris it wouldn’t be pretty. The ladies who were overlooked and who have been grinding for years and years, they may or may not provide that real challenge for Cris but I know who I would prefer to see her fight.

The promotion isn’t stupid, all the time, so I am sure there is a plan to sign all the names on the above list who never made it. The promotion has just shown that they seem to not be that serious about building this very exciting division, which is sad. If they are serious about building this division they need that mix of fresh young blood and experienced fighters to balance it all out beautifully.

Time will tell what direction the promotion goes in.
