Re: How common and realistic is it for a woman to be stronger than a man?
I think the question is missing the point. This forum is about Mixed Wrestling and in Mixed Wrestling while strength is certainly a factor, there are lots of other factors that determine whether the man or the woman will come out on top. The key one is fighting skill. In martial arts I have beaten guys who were far stronger than me but complete beginners, and I have been beaten by girls who were smaller and weaker, but far more skilled. Other key factors are weight, fitness, height, aggressiveness, dominant attitude, etc.
The average guy will be more skillful, stronger, heavier, fitter, taller, and more aggressive than the average lady. But that doesn't mean that all man are on one side of a dividing line and all women are on the other. There is a large overlap in the middle. Session wrestlers tend to be at the very least more skilled, fitter, and more aggressive and dominant than the guys they wrestle. That is why they tend to win. While they may not all be stronger than the guys they wrestle in the upper body, they are certainly generally far stronger than the average lady. They will also tend to use their legs which will often be stronger than the guys, even if his arms are stronger. Stronger arms are not much use if you are caught in a head scissors. Men are used to fighting with their arms and are often caught off guard by leg scissor techniques. The men that they fight tend to be less fit. Any strength advantage that the men have can soon disappear as they get tired, particularly if they are struggling to get out of a scissor hold. Before too long, the tables can be turned. For example if a guy starts out with strength that is 150% of the lady's, but tires quickly and his strength reduces by half to 75% while the fit lady is still at 100%, she is now stronger. However, the real problem for the guy is still her superior skill. Personally, I prefer to be forced to submit by a small woman with greater skill than me, than by a female body builder with greater strength. Last edited by pauldownd; 06-Jul-18 at 00:47. Either way, you join the umpteen million guys pursuing a relatively small number of females with strength of any note. Quote:
Threads like these persist because many guys believe strength determines outcome of fights. No amount of real-world evidence will persuade them otherwise. They believe it because they want to believe it. |

Overall men are stronger. About 19 times out of 20. Mostly in upper body. Lower body not by so much and the ratio likely drops to only 4 out of 5. The trend is women who work out tend to work out lower bodies and many men don't. Result you get many women stronger in this area. Seen many women that are weak looking in the upper bodies but fit strong legs and butts able to out do men in legs exercises that spend all their time on having big strong upper bodies but average looking legs.

Re: How common and realistic is it for a woman to be stronger than a man?
I think that the difference between average men and women is smaller in the lower weight classes. Like 120 lb women probably aren't much different than 120 lb men. There isn't a great deal of muscle or fat on either gender so there probably won't be a huge gender advantage.
But an untrained 180 lb male will have a lot more muscle mass than a 180 lb woman. At the lighter weights, we see girls competing in boys wrestling leagues. Its rare to see a bigger girl competing and winning against boys. Last edited by ca12345; 07-Jul-18 at 15:31. |

I would wager that Arekah and Severa would demolish an untrained man of equal weight.

At the lighter weights its usually guys who are not even fully developed, essentially teenagers aged 15/16 who wrestle girls who have developed. A man a few years older and with muscle mass will still be much stronger and more explosive. |
