Probably not. But it depends.

About 2.9 percent of high school wrestlers go on to compete in Division 1 schools, which can offer athletic scholarships.

Anything's possible. But the odds aren't good.

Yes. Lots of competitive wrestlers routinely beat other wrestlers who are older than they. Wrestling doesn't care that you're a senior and your opponent is a freshman. The better wrestler on that day will win. Wrestling is not unique. The best HS girl tennis player in the country would beat a lot of college players.

She obviously can, but it's less likely. Then again, age doesn't necessarily correlate with skill, there are always exceptions.

Agree with Clockwork. Special problems set in for women at the college level. For one thing, puberty has complete its course for the guys. For another, these days I think it's a pretty good general rule that only very good male high school wrestlers go on to wrestle in college.

Some years ago, there was a girl who wrestled at the junior college level in California against guys and won some matches. (Apparently wrestling wasn't even her main sport; swimming was.) But I'm guessing that some of the junior colleges didn't have advanced programs. If you go far enough back, some guys wrestled in college who hadn't wrestled in high school. And definitely some (like me) wrestled in college who hadn't been very good in high school.

By the time you're talking about male scholarship wrestlers, you've probably gone a bridge too far, allowing, as Clockwork said, for the occasional anything-can-happen factor.

From what I can tell, 38 Divison II and III schools have women’s teams.

Arizona State supposedly has committed to form a women’s team.

So there may be Division I women’s wrestling at some point. But for now, it ain’t there.

I think it is more than possible. Look at MMA, I cannot tell you how many 18, 19 year old girls beat women older and much older, and some of the women were quite muscled and looked stronger but tapped or passed out. In fact a 12 year old girl choked out a 24 yo girl in MMA.

The choke is kind of a wild card in MMA. It is sometimes surprising who can get one on whom. Someplace online there's match held at some sort of military meet where a woman troop is taking a bad beating from a guy until, at the end, she gets a choke and wins. Some people think chokes should be illegal for this reason.

The pin in wrestling isn't much like that, though strange things can and do happen.

At any rate, I go back to puberty. There really isn't much difference between teen girls and adult women in strength, at least not typically. Puberty doesn't particular make girls stronger. Indeed, it complicates their athletic lives, as with gymnasts. They find themselves with new weight that is athletically useless. But with guys, the difference between, say, 15 and 20 is just huge -- and all good, athletically speaking.

At any rate, I don't say it's impossible. Upsets happen in sports.
