Default Replying to my own post problem

OK, so this is odd. I was planning to post a few pictures to the Kick Ass Club Chicas thread today, as I've done maaaaany time over the past few years. The first post went up as normal and so I hit reply as I usually do and uploaded a few pics to my subsequent post.

However, when I hit 'preview', just to review the pics I'd posted so far, something strange happened. All the text (and the photo I'd embedded in my previous post) appeared in the new post. I double checked that I hadn't hot 'reply with quote', but I hadn't - and the old text isn't surrounded by Quote tags, it just appears as I'd previously typed it.

I've since left the forum and came back, cleared all my cache and tried (preview) posting in other random threads - where the same problem doesn't occur, as far as I can tell. But whenever I come back to the Kick Ass thread, my old post simply won't go away.

Just to illustrate...

Here's what happened after one attempted random text reply (note the addition of the words 'added after 6 minutes' which I didn't type.
[Only Registered Users Can See LinksClick Here To Register]

Once again I deleted all the text...

[Only Registered Users Can See LinksClick Here To Register]

Hit 'preview' and....

[Only Registered Users Can See LinksClick Here To Register]

I don't know how it's happening, whether it's just a weird fault on the forum or that I've changed some settings somewhere so my original post keeps repeating?

(Oh yes, and even though I'm definitely only hitting 'reply' each time, my original post keeps indicating that it's been edited at times corresponding to my attempted replies. Weird!)

Hi, FootPower!

Check this out: [Only Registered Users Can See LinksClick Here To Register]

If a user is posting in the same topic twice within 90 minutes, their latter post will get merged with the original post. This is done to prevent unnecessary bumping. No data should be lost - all attachments will be merged as well.

Example -> [Only Registered Users Can See LinksClick Here To Register]

Zweig, is there, or will there be, a way to disable this function? Many times I deliberately want separate posts within a thread.

Added after 7 minutes:

Ah. Well, that does explain that. It certainly makes sense for the purpose for which it's intended.

The downside is that it presumably means that posting a number of posts in succession which simply contain the maximum number of photos (and minimal/no text) - as I've done for example on [Only Registered Users Can See LinksClick Here To Register] page and [Only Registered Users Can See LinksClick Here To Register] - is no longer possible (without a 90 minute gap between each post) as the old post still won't be able to hold more than 30 pictures.

It's not really a huge problem. I don't do big multi-posts like the ones I've mentioned above all that often. I'll just have to restrain myself a little more in the future...

EP, I did this because it gets tiring merging posts made within minutes of each other without reason, in order to make a thread page more readable and informative. Let me see how it plays out and whether it is possible to make it optional with auto-merge being the default.

Lol, Merry Christmas, mate! That photo is hot!

Just a bit more feedback on this function, as I've just realised another sitation where it can be an inconvenience.

I've just posted some pictures in 'my' [Only Registered Users Can See LinksClick Here To Register] over on the Pictures board. By its very nature, that thread was always intended to showcase a variety of pictures so as to minimise the need to start numerous individual threads every time I wanted to share some pictures.

I had intended to immediately follow up my recent post with a second post, with a batch of completely different pictures from a different site, so merging the two posts wouldn't really make sense (and for the reasons I mentioned previously, wouldn't be possible anyway because of the 30 picture limit). Obviously, I'll still post the other pictures, but now rather than simply being able to do all my posting in one 'sitting' as it were, I'm going to have wait for 90 minutes. And if I then want to post another 30 pics (in the same thread), that's another 90 minutes on top of that. Essentially, a few posts that might have taken me maybe 30/60 mins to post will now take me at least three hours.

Again, I'll be the first to admit this is a pretty specific issue to me. Most threads here are focused on just one subject, so this is kind of a unique example. I just wanted to offer some further thoughts on the new function as to how it impacts on other aspects of the board.

OK, guys, I've figured out how to disable this function for individual members. Already disabled for @[Only Registered Users Can See LinksClick Here To Register] and @[Only Registered Users Can See LinksClick Here To Register]. If anyone else wants to circumvent auto-merging, let me know why, and I'll add you to the list.

Thanks Zweig, I appreciate that! Now I guess I'd better keep posting loads of pictures to justify you making the effort!
