Default What should we do?

There are around fifthy members who are doing the whole job in this forum.Tens of thousands of other "members" just come here ,look at the photos, download the links and do absolutely nothing for the forum. Worst of all some of them open their mouths only when they dislike something, discouraging the contributors and critisizing them for their posts.
Other forums ban such members.

CAG00 wrote in another thread " I understand why people stop posting....I am next"

I am also considering to stop posting under these conditions.I donīt understand why the moderators donīt react?

One solution is to go back to the good old days when only the contributing members could watch all the links and photos and not all other silent, leachers.

It would also be good ,if it is technically possible to allow a member to block some people from seeing his posts,as it is done in Facebook. In that way we could at least avoid hearing the moronsīcritisism.

First, I posted several pics in the albums area and really never got much feedback. No big deal, just figured my duty to at least post something. And, I'm less than computer savvy. That being said, why would people be critical? If they don't like something, just move on to the next thing. You would think someone with a fetish like mixed wrestling would not be so critical of others taste.

As someone who frequents this site, submits reviews occasionally and attempts to intelligently contribute to discussions, I kind of feel like you get what you put into it to an extent. Also, it helps if you just do what you do and not worry so much about other people.

As far as the unfair criticism goes, I think trolls on an internet site are like air inside a balloon. They are omnipresent. Refusing to post and trying to get trolls and kicked off the site isn't going to change that. You're cutting your nose off to spite your face.

Unfortunately, all the things you rail against are just part of the backdrop on a site like this.

I can tell you though, I for one really appreciate all of you guys' contributions.

Hey, J! Thanks for bringing this up!

By itself trolling is prohibited at the forum. However, it is sometimes difficult to identify whether a member is one or not. So I reserve banning them only when it is obvious and undeniable, to avoid negative censorship.

Lurkers are different. They are a part of any online community. Blocking them off is bad for any community's growth, since you are basically becoming private, or semi-private. Moreover, I know several active contributing members here that have lurked for a long while before deciding to engage and participate.

As far as hiding a post or a part of it from non-contributing members, there is already a solution to this: it's the HIDE tag - [Only Registered Users Can See LinksClick Here To Register] - I use it from time to time myself to hopefully get more people to participate. When you put anything in your post between HIDE tags, it will only be visible to those who have amassed 10 Thanks (have been thanked 10 times before). You can modify the opening tag like [HIDE = 20 ] (without spaces) to make the tagged part of your post only viewable by those who have received 20 Thanks, for example.

Another tool that I don't think is used often is the ignore function. You can add people to your ignore list in order to not see their posts, however they will still be able to see yours. The ignore list can be accessed through your user CP: [Only Registered Users Can See LinksClick Here To Register]

Unfortunately, there is no way to block only certain members from viewing your posts completely.

Negative commenting is normal. This is natural to any community. We all have different personalities, attitudes, moods... I only moderate these when they cross the line and become offensive. Here's [Only Registered Users Can See LinksClick Here To Register] that I use as a guideline when making such decisions:

1.5 Please be courteous and polite towards others. We are all here to share content that we like and discuss our predilections. Avoid political or religious discussions. Racist, homophobic or chauvinistic behavior will not be tolerated.

- 1.5.1 If you have nothing positive or at least constructive to add to the discussion, please avoid responding to a topic. There is a vast array of topics here, not all of which will be up your alley. Please skip the topics that you have a dislike for. Criticizing other people's preferences is incredibly dumb, and might result in a warning or a ban.

- 1.5.2 Engaging in a respectful argument in a discussion topic is welcome. However, one member should not take over a thread by confronting or arguing with everyone who replies, or repeatedly expressing their views over an extended period of time. This is considered trolling and might result in a ban. Once you have made your point in a discussion, it is best to move along.

There will be negative commenting sometimes. However, I can tell you from my experience online that this forum is one of the friendliest places that I've ever been a member of.

That being said, if you have a strong feeling someone is a troll and is generally destructive to the community, please let me know via pm or via the report button, and I will look into it.

Unfortunately, the [Only Registered Users Can See LinksClick Here To Register] is rarely viewed. It is best to post photos at the forum itself, in a selected topic, or create a new topic with photos. Or if you already created an album, then you can simply post a link to it in a relevant thread, so that people actually know it's there, because otherwise they don't, unless they check the new albums list, which most don't.

There will always be a short number of active members in a Internet forum. It can be unfortunate but i don't think it is necessary negative, some people prefer to read or don't feel at ease to write or share. Keeping a place open remains important.

Negative remarks are another thing and it can still be frustrating without crossing a line, but i agree that ignoring them is better, as it is so easy to criticize behind a computer.

Some people here have lives with hectic work schedules. Sometimes some of us like lurking, reading reviews, looking at a few videos and going about our way.

If someone has something "smart" to say, then you can't do anything about it as it's just in their personality. This isn't a safe space. You can't always tune people out just because they said something that offended you. Like the real world, you're going to have to deal with people who you absolutely hate, or don't agree with. An ass hole is still an asshole on any other forums, but as long as they are following the rules, then it shouldn't be much of an issue. if you have a problem with it, you can always call them out on it in a way that doesn't break the rules or report it.

Suggesting the forum go to a route where only picked members can view links is silly. Sharing full blown downloads from companies is not allowed on this forum, and the only way people can do it here is to show the link from sharing websites such as youtube or porn hub. and at that point, it's up to the producer of the company to remove it.

To he honest though, this post just seems like it stems from an argument/debate you recently had with someone. or recently saw. Yes, there are some unpleasant members here but sometimes you'll have to deal with that.

Edit:[Only Registered Users Can See LinksClick Here To Register]

Got some more context for the thread. So mostly lack of activity and thanks? I mean..it is a picture thread. Sometimes people don't have much worthwhile things to say other than "cool". And sometimes people just aren't interested in the content

This, I think, is probably the healthiest attitude to have. I'll admit I'm disappointed if I sweat over a story for weeks and post it and get only a few thanks and no responses, but the only way to stay happy in the long term is do what you do to please yourself. If other people enjoy it, that's wonderful; if not, it's best not to take it personally and try not to make it a big deal. If you post pics, post pics you enjoy; if you do stories, write what you like and post it. It's easier to say than do of course, but it's what I am for at least.

Zweig,

From now on I will hide my posts from "members" who have received less than 1000 thanks. I tried it in my last post in "Instruction videos" thread. Don`t know if it is working as it is the first time I am doing so,could you please check it?
I wished I could also hide my posts from people who have not clicked on Thanks button at least 1000 times. Is that possible?
