Unhappy Yahoo Newsgroups.

I know that many forum members don't use Yahoo Newsgroups very much anymore ( mainly because of the ridiculous ammount of spam on them ). However, for those who still occasionally use them, what are the general impressions of the changes Yahoo has made. They have combined Yahoo Clubs and Yahoo Groups. The result is a turgid, unwieldly beast---not atall user friendly. If ever there was a case of "If It's Not Broke, Dont Fix It", this was it. I myself have 6 wrestling related Yahoo Groups and they are all totally spam free. That takes a bit of effort. So much so, that I am seriously thinking of shutting them down, and indeed, abandoning News Groups altogether, now Yahoo has imposed this new format. Perhaps they have had their day. Any one have ideas on this topic ?

I'm not sure if your question is a rhetorical one, or whether you are trying to elicit a response to it. Have you actually tried using Yahoo Newsgroups in the last 2 days ( ie since they made the "improvements" ?

Yes, I am a maintainer of a Yahoo-group. I am not sure what to think of the new updates yet. I was not able to upload any photo's using the new interface yesterday, hope it is a bug due to recent introduction that will be fixed soon. But I am also considering moving the content from Yahoo to something else, but I do not know any good alternatives for Yahoo Groups. I am currently looking at a Facebook community page, it looks promising, but I am not sure how strict Facebooks policies are about content like this (there is no nudity, but photo's of mixed wrestling actions).

Ehuls, what is the address of your Group ? You can always send me a pm if you don't want to make it public. Yahoo Groups were already struggling with the spammers problem. This new format is a real "own goal". Spam on these Groups has been a problem for a year or three and it's difficult to see how they can survive unless something is done to stop it. Is your Group spam free, and if not, why not ?

In my opinion the new Yahoo groups format TOTALLY SUCKS, I have a good mind to delete all of the mixedwrestlinglovers groups as it is impossible to arrange photos in the correct order, they are impossible to look at on this slide player thing they use and to add insult to injury it hasn't been loading any photos and my groups are apparently lost.

That's my rant over with, I hate yahoo with every fibre of my being right now.

I've been using yahoogroups for the past 7 years, and I totally agree about the new format - I hate it! This latest incarnation, yes, really, truly hate it. Why oh why have they done this?!

I've always liked yahoogroups, and fans and customers have enjoyed them over the years as well. But the new layout and navigation for the yahoogroups site is just unnecessarily difficult and ridiculous, in my opinion. It's non-intuitive and awkward to deal with. And speaking of this...

... I'm pretty web savvy and I just signed into my yahoogroups account... and I can't even find or access any of my groups. Hmm. Yep, sounds like the same problem as 1manwimp. Well, at least they're still delivering e-mail, but it sure hasn't been easy for new users to find the groups! Such a shame.

Angry Re: Yahoo Newsgroups.

Yep, the new format of Yahoo Groups is total shite, having not a single point in its favour. I just hope that the clowns who devised this bollocks have not received a bonus for their "good work". I myself have 6 Yahoo Groups, but if Yahoo do not listen, and put things back to how they were, then I will wrap them up and finish them. At this rate, there wont be many groups left in a few months, 'cos it just isn't worth a Group Owners time trying to maintain them. Nice one Yahoo. If you want to stay in business, try listening to your clients wishes.

Smile Re: Yahoo Newsgroups.

This is for everybody who runs or uses Yahoo Newsgroups and is on the point of giving up on them because of the shite new format---------Don't do it ! It is so easy to revert back to how it was, before they forced this abortion on us. Simply download Firefox and open that browser. If you allready use it, you're halfway there. Now download ( install ) the following Firefox plugin.

[Only Registered Users Can See LinksClick Here To Register]

That's it, you're done.

As long as you access your groups( dir.groups.yahoo.com ) in the firefox browser with the plugin installed, the groups will appear almost as they did before. Up your's Yahoo.
