Default Invicta Controversy

Last night at Invicta 20 Tonya Evinger lost her belt via arm bar early in the first round. The fight was not without controversy. With her opponent on the ground Tonya found herself trapped in an arm bar as she was standing. In an attempt to escape Tonya stepped on her opponents face and attempted to pry her arm free. The ref told her to get her foot off of her opponents face and when she did her opponent twisted her body to secure the arm bar further and force Tonya to tap. The question is it illegal to place your foot on a grounded fighters face. She wasn't kicking her just using her foot to secure her as she attempted to escape the hold.

After watching that I don't think what Tonya was doing was illegal but at the same time I don't think it cost her the match. That arm bar was locked pretty good.

Yeah, not illegal and it didn't cost the fight. Only way Tonya might have got out was to stomp her face, and that would have been illegal.

My arm is out to the elbow, he was forcing me to move positions right here. Gawd it's still so devastating to me.

To my understanding, using the knee on the face to maneuver is legal, but stepping on the face while standing is not. That means the referee was right to tell her to change this position.

Either way, it is surprising she allowed herself to get set up like that so early in the match, but congratulations to the young blonde for exploiting the opening.

Do you guys think there is any chance that Tonya will be back to underground fighting within the next 2 years? Or are those days completely behind her now? I don't know what makes the major leagues (UFC) select one fighter over another, but it's my opinion that, even with this loss, there are many fans who'd tune in on Fight Night to watch her.

What was her session name again? Didn't she use to tour with Tommi?

Evinger got legit tapped out. She can whine and bitch about the ref all she wants but the fact is....she was trapped tight.

Yes it is legal as long as there is no strike involved while placing the foot on the head #AskBJM>>

MMA's top ref weighs in.
