Default Sara Mcmann vs Alexis Davis

Anyone see it? I was rooting for Alexis but have to give Sara her due. Man she has some guns. That choke was tight.

I saw the fight.

It was a good win for Sara. Alexis Davis is a black belt in BJJ and this was the first time she was submitted in MMA. She was however coming off a 19 month hiatus in which she gave birth, so probably not at her best.

Sara says she wants the winner of Nunes/Rousey, but Pena and Shevchenko are probably closer to the title picture.

Pennington may be the more likely next match up.

Yeah. If Sara is going to make her mark now is the time. I didn't realize she is 36. That's like six years older than the retired Meisha Tate.

In Sport it's not always how old you are, but what you've accomplished and how much you feel it has taken out of you along the way.

Recently, the newly crowned F1 champ Nico Rosberg announced his retirement @ 31. This is very young for a racing driver to stop. Often they'll race into their 40s.

It's all relative to the individual.

Sara is a young 36. She looks younger and her body is still in good nick without too many injury setbacks. Obviously she still has goals to accomplish and feels she hasn't peaked yet as an MMA fighter.

I think she's making a comeback and turning around her career. I was keeping an eye on her for awhile but gave up on her when she lost to Meisha. That fight was up for grabs in the third and Sara takes Meisha down. Everyone thought the fight was hers and Meisha totally out wrestles her and controls her the entire round.

"Easy for you(me) to say", I know, but I can't believe she tapped to that. She should have chosen the nap instead.

McMann is one tough chica. Both are, but damn, McMann looked legitimately affected by the strikes in that first round.

I think when you're fading away in a choke hold fear makes you tap. Even though I told myself I wouldn't I've tapped virtually every time I've been knocked out though many times the taps were ignored and the KO occurs.

You bring up a good point though. Is it more embarassing to tap out or get knocked out?

Maybe the best is yet to come, but the problem I’ve always seen in Sara is as relevant today as it has always been. She was/is a great Wrestler, but is simply not an aggressive, violent enough woman to be a great "cage fighter". She is genuinely just too nice.
In the build up to her fight with Ronda, I remember Ronda saying she was not aloof to the fact that Sara was her athletic equal, being a fellow Olympian, but the difference would be in their mentality. Ronda said she would be willing to die in the cage whereas Sara would not, that she saw herself as a gladiator while Sara saw herself as an athlete.

I "gave up" on Sara around the time of the Lauren Murphy fight. She’s got the wrestling and physical horsepower to be smashing some of these girls and chooses to just lay on them. Her striking is actually pretty good and people often remark that she is a hard hitter and even boasts about being able to end a fight with one punch, but this never materializes. She has no confidence in her chin and is terrified of being hit. This was highlighted also in her fight with Miesha, where initially she was having great success in the stand up and dropped Miesha in round 1. And again against Alexis, she looked threatening in the stand up, but the resistance from Davis and “numbness in her face” caused her to revert back to her happy place of LnP wrestling, even if it meant Davis being more active from the bottom, at least in round 1.

I want to see her get over this and become a female Rumble Johnson.
