ok, off topic go here. in youtube you can watch videos of Americans'
fallen hero's "military personnel killed in action" being removed from the plane that brought them home. it is a very solemn moment that leaves one speechless. but it is a reminder of the price of freedom and our sons are still paying that price every day.

I was in Afghanistan from Oct 2008 - May 2009, before the shift from Iraq back to OEF. Being too young to take part in the initial invasion, I didn't go there until we were well into the 'nation building' phase. We were in Nowzad - a town that was largely abandoned other than the Thaliban. The whole country is a hellhole, and no amount of money is going to change that.

I left after my enlistment because I had other things I wanted to do with my life, plus serving in an infantry battalion gets old quick. Political correctness was getting to be too much to deal with anyway (Marines getting in trouble for 'hazing', getting in trouble for killing 'civilians' that a few minutes ago were 'insurgents', etc).

Well it is general discussion, so I suppose anything goes. I responded because I have direct experience with it. That said, I'm not going to go into too much detail about certain things that happened over there because, frankly, it isn't pleasant.
