Legs Re: Headscissors in BJJ (+knockout)

So BJJ, according to [Only Registered Users Can See LinksClick Here To Register], does not have a variation of the headscissor/head scissors in the way we talk about on the thread? If that is the case, what seperates BJJ's hold/choke from what we can compare it with?

For a scissors to work, it requires strength. You put your opponent's neck or mid-section between your thighs and press together with all your might.

BJJ chokes don't rely on strength. They involve shutting off the oxygen and/or blood supply to your opponent's brain.

So, [Only Registered Users Can See LinksClick Here To Register] and [Only Registered Users Can See LinksClick Here To Register] (both from [Only Registered Users Can See LinksClick Here To Register]) require strength, but the BJJ Carlson hold doesn't. It just requires stretch your legs and crossing your ankles as quickly as possible at the right time?

I just remember reading something that said, "Your legs are much stronger than your arms", in reference to BJJ. Why would that be said?

Also, to you, which scissors would be more likely to knock someone out: around their head or neck?

All jiu jitsu techniques require strength. Why do you think some of the pros got caught using steriods?

The neck area will be vulnerable to scissors. Your carotid arteries are located in the neck, and if those are blocked, you going to la la land.

BJJ requires enough strength to do the technique.

But the basis of it boils down to bending parts of your body in ways they weren't intended. It's why women can knock out males or break their joints.

The Carlson Gracie blog you linked to differentiates between simply squeezing your opponent's neck versus shutting off their blood supply.

The difference is placing part of your leg over an artery and pressing down to shut off the blood flow to the brain.

What you're talking about is just placing opponent's head between legs and hoping you squeeze hard enough to make them give up.

It was broadcast on UFC Fight Pass, so it's probably archived there. You can join free for seven days.
