I think it was a good strategy to be tentative in the first two rounds but in the third round Valentina should have come forward and try to crowd Amanda and make it a brawl.

It's not only about winning fights but also about performances. Not many fans are going to look forward to her fights in the future if she keeps fighting like this.

I mean I like Valentina but her style is just too boring right now. Maybe it's because she's always smaller than her opponents and it makes her more cautious. If she goes down to 125 she should definitely be more aggressive.
It's hard to say what she will do. 125 makes sense but it seems like there's a real rivalry now between her and Nunes that causes me to think, if the UFC gives her any indication they'd go for it, that she'll stick around at 135 for a third crack at Amanda.

Rogan's commentary was unintentionally amusing, a couple of times explaining the fight was so boring because the fighters were so good.

Lots of Shevchenko content on the net today but none more fascinating than this. Man, she didn't even flinch. Valentina is one tough cookie:

This is a good breakdown that explains why the fight was "boring" because both fighters were so good.

She doesn't say anything that differs too much from her post-fight comments but does acknowledge the dislocated finger affected her in the match.

Find smarter pundits. A huge number of PPV customers believe that Valentina is the rightful champion and it's exactly that sort of ire that often fuels purchase decisions. I'm not saying you could sell it next week, but in about a year, I could easily see people clamoring for it if both women remain undefeated and stay at 135. I hope another contender will get a shot at Amanda when she comes back off medical break.

It's got nothing to do with smarts, it's just the general consensus that Valentina won't get an immediate title shot. The people I'm reading ARE some of MMA's better pundits. That's why I read them.

Nunes is out for six months for surgery, she'll fight someone else when she returns so the estimate of a year-long wait before she even sees whether she gets another shot is a long time in MMA. I'm seeing a lot of fans on both sides of the issue, maybe a slight lean towards Shevchenko but Ariel Helwani made a good point this week that a lot of fans are probably still harbouring resentment towards Nunes for the July cancellation.

Many of MMA's top writers are saying that, whatever anyone thinks, this wasn't a robbery and Shevchenko didn't do enough. I don't agree, I think she did do enough but the question is, should Shevchenko hang around at 135 for a year or longer in hopes the stars will align for another crack at Nunes or should she move to 125, where she could well be on the fast track to a title shot? For us diehard Shevchenko fans, that might be a better move for those of us who are dying to see her with a belt around her waist.

I personally don't want to see another Nunes vs Shevchenko anytime soon. Maybe if Nunes continues to defend her title and Valentina dominates the 125 division, which I see her being able to do, after 2-3 years, as a super-fight it will make sense.
