Crap. I hope they get rid of the ridiculous and unnecessary weight-cutting soon to prevent such things from happening.

Joanna wants to step in as a replacement. Not likely to happen though.

If they want to do that, they have to raise the weight divisions 10 lbs across the board and do the weigh-ins the night of the fight. Hey, Cyborg might even have an outside chance to make 155 then (but I doubt it).

Just read the bad news. It sucks but I shouldn't be so surprised, it's always a possiblility. Seems so last minute but apparently Nunes has been ill all week. Wish I'd known. So disappointed! Have to do something else tonight.

What an absolute bummer. I was totally pumped for this fight.

I can only imagine Nunes came down with a virus, migraine, period pains, etc, and didn't feel up to it. Before the UFC, she had a penchant for pulling out of fights but it causes a lot of ill feeling among fans when it's only hours from an event. I'm not surprised to see a lot of people hating on Nunes for doing this.

It's also a shame the UFC can't get a late replacement. The most obvious one would be Jessica Eye, who weighed in on Thursday and underwent all the necessary medical and drug screening to compete on the Gaethe/Johnson undercard. Her opponent, Aspen Ladd, also pulled out at the last moment and she never got to compete. Having a stand-by fighter is something the UFC needs to consider. These feel like dark days for the company with everything else going on.

It doesn't surprise me one bit. Like I said Nunes is a mentally weak fighter and you could tell that she had absolutely no confidence to face Valentina. Dana White said that she was cleared to fight by the doctors yet didn't want to. She knew that she was going to get beat up and humiliated.

Make no mistake, most of these injuries and pull outs in the UFC are because fighters are ducking each other. That's the reason why these things don't happen that much in boxing where you can duck the other fighter easier due to different promotions, TV deals, belts... There are very few boxing fights that get cancelled even though those guys also get injured and sick all the time because when the fights do get made it's usually because the both guys want to. In the UFC though, fighters are pretty much "forced" to face each other by the promotion and the only way to get out of a fight is to pull out. That's why you get these imaginary injuries or illnesses. Even if they're not imaginary fighters fight with injuries all the time, there are actually few fights where both fighters are 100% going in. Being "sick" is no excuse.

Amanda Nunes statement on this : [Only Registered Users Can See LinksClick Here To Register]

The whole situation is frustrating and the explanation given doesn't seem convincing, but i agree the UFC still has a lot to do to prevent those letdowns. Blaming Nunes only doesn't bring a solution.

I'm a "mentally tough" person who doesn't skip out on a menial low-paying job even when I can barely see, and I missed only one day due to illness because I couldn't even stand up because I was so sick. As a "mentally tough" person, I have one thing to say: Shut up, you have no idea what you are talking about.
