The character was also the basis for a short-lived ABC TV series in the 1965-66 television season starring Anne Francis. The girl was a hottie and went through an intensive karate training to perform some of her stunts. She was one of the first females showing her fighting abilities in the screen. The kind of girl one'd love to fight with.

We didnt see much of it here in the UK but it was
shown in the mid 90s on a cable channel.Anne
Francis was completely utterly gorgeous

Had to laugh at the comic strip plot though with
Honey trying to foil a "fixed" pro wrestling match

Fixed?? Pro wrestling?? That could never happen lol

Oddly enough the great Fall Guy episode "Ladies on
the ropes" had a similar fix storyline but was a great
watch with the hottest tag team The Falling Stars

Trying to find a link to The Falling Stars hot match
but this clip from another US show is cool too

Honey West was an American copy of Britain's The Avengers television show. This week I gave it another try, on a channel that airs old television shows, but I found it not worth watching. Emma Peel had long fight scenes in The Avengers where she sometimes delivered many karate chops during one fight. Honey West would use only one karate chop, as quick as a sucker punch. That causes me to prefer The Avengers.

I don't suppose the young people have any reason to care, but, just for the record, I don't see any reason to call Honey West a copy of The Avengers. The only thing they had in common was the ass-kicking babe. Honey West was a private detective (not some sort of world-saving international espionage agent). Private detectives were a staple of American entertainment from the 40s through the 60s. It was inevitable that eventually one would be woman. As others have noted, she was created by novelists who did a series of books about her. The TV show had nothing of The Avengers style and wit. It was just generic American private-eye TV with a sex change.

I'm not trying to persuade you to like something you didn't like, but I feel like airing my own perspective. I think that the HONEY f/m fights are as well done as those on AVENGERS, but they come from different attitudes.

If the HONEY producers were in any way inspired by the English success of AVENGERS, they certainly didn't go for a close copy. For the genre, HONEY WEST is a fairly realistic show, and this realism is reflected in Honey's f/m battles. She's never less than courageous, and she uses a variety of blows and holds to triumph, but the viewer never loses sight of the fact that she's working to overcome a strength differential. Honey West never really WANTS to fight a guy.

In contrast, Emma Peel charges into fights like the differential doesn't even exist, like a comic book superheroine would. The idea that a man has a strength advantage never occurs to her, and this fits with the way the producers frame her battles and those of Steed. They're not realistic, but stylized, and this also fits with AVENGERS' greater tendency to use fantasy-content.

And that's my take on the matter.

Emma Peel seemed to me to enjoy her fights, for example at a movie studio. That made me enjoy watching it even more. I found her fights realistic, with me thinking that her training and experience at martial arts would allow her to win fights against men.
