However, the first attempt, at the commission level, failed so I really can't see a court overturning the Athletic Commission's decision. Still, I made a small contribution and wish Celine all the luck in the world. I have a feeling she's going to need it:

It kind of reminds me of the Pennington/Ashley Evans Smith fight when, if I remember correctly the ref didn't realize Evans Smith was out until after the buzzer then correctly awarded Pennington the fight.

Interesting fight. Montenegro dominates the entire time, but manages somehow to not (truly) win and also to GET finished in the process. I want the one who won the fight to win the fight, but at the same time, it's difficult for me to agree that someone who was KNOCKED OUT legally actually "won"...except in the ultra-rare case of the simultaneous double knockout.

She's raised $1000 on the gofundme, but I don't think Haga should spend time or resources on this decision. The market value of a rematch is higher if she leaves it alone and gets back to the grind, IMO, because right now, she's got a ton of fans on her side.

Here's something you don't see too often, an fairly in-depth interview with two female fighters, Lauren Murphy and Marion Reneau that gets into politics and other social issues:

Angela beat up on another (relatively speaking) tomato can. She can look really, really impressive against that caliber of opponent.

She's an interesting fighter. Well-rounded, if not quite masterful at any one thing. But sometimes she seems to get overeager and makes very dangerous mistakes.

Still wishing UFC had gone with a 125 division, not a 145. She'd be an exciting second tier talent in that division. JJ and Shevchenko would move to that division and comprise the first tier talents.

You put your finger on it - the UFC doesn't want a bunch of women changing divisions right now.

Default Doctor Stoppage - right or wrong?? (Veta Arteaga vs Brooke Mayo)

I do not know whether this is copyright-protected, but here's the Arteaga-Mayo fight from Bellator 172.

Do you agree with the doctor's decision to stop the fight?

Absolutely heartbreaking. No reason to stop it, especially so close to the end of a fight where Mayo was even in all three rounds. The doctor should never have been involved. I usually sing John McCarthy's praises but he had no business stopping the fight and bringing the doctor in. I totally blame him and I think I know why he did it.

I'm afraid to say that the charge of sexism that some female fighters are starting to talk about has once again reared its ugly head. Female fights are consistently stopped in situations where a male fight would continue. There is no way that fight would have been stopped if it had been a man. Robbie Lawler/Rory McDonald anyone?

Mayo's statement after the fight: "Thank you everyone that messaged me and reached out to me about the fight. I'm doing fine. I went to the doctor and found out my my eye is just bruised."
