Kayla is not solid muscle. She's carrying a lot of fat.

That may be but here is another fact:
Ronda Rousey Olympic Bronze medalist
Kayla Harrison, Olympic Gold medalist
Sure right now Ronda has the advantage because of her mma training but when Kayla starts traning mma, watch out. There is nobody that can grapple at that level in the mma except maybe for Sheila Bird.

cyborg *pulled* mount. cyborg is not a smart fighter.

as for harrison, its all speculation really, but given her comments about not liking being hit in the face, all the talent in the world cant compensate for a mental aversion to taking a shot. not a knock on her, shes phenomenal at what she does but not everyone who is incredible at their base sport has the ability to translate it into dominance in mma.

Well they'll have to meet within a weight class so she would not be bigger. Sure, she is without a doubt better at JUDO than Ronda (having done nothing but, for years, and getting the Gold), but how good is her armbar which, safe to say, is Ronda's killer move. Ronda is an armbar (sub)machine, with the added benefit of virtually unlimited time to work it on the ground. She was forced to perfect it when her knee was injured, and had the added benefit of her mom's instruction, having been forced herself to win with the same limitations in her competitive career.
If the ref's in MMA started standing up competitors like they do in Judo, Ronda's edge in the submission department would def start to dwindle.

p.s. I won't argue that armbars aren't boring, but MMA rules don't seem to be awarding points for style, at least not yet.

Remember when Brock Lesnar entered MMA, everyone said he had no chance and he had no chin. He destroyed Frank Mir and Heath Herring who were both seasoned mma fighters.
Harrison is a big strong judoka and that's a hell of alot more than Kaufman and Tate can say.

Whether or not Rousey has better submissions might be largely irrelevant in a fight between the two because of Harrison's Judo skills. If Rousey can't actually throw Harrison (which she's been able to do effortlessly against all her MMA opponents so far) then she's unlikely to ever be in a position to attempt a submission.

Regardless, I think an MMA fight between the two is unlikely in the near future at least. Dropping that much weight isn't going to be easy and regardless of her Judo pedigree she needs some fights under her belt before any kind of title shot.

I wonder if Ronda's ability to make lemonade out of lemons will help her get a sub regardless of how they end up on the ground or whether she can "throw" Kayla (of course it won't be this easy)

Just thinking guys..........

If this is going into a discussion and a lot of Ronda talk, would we be better continuing over on the:

Ronda Rousey: Official Discussion Thread

[Only Registered Users Can See LinksClick Here To Register]

.....only we're on the Pictures Board and gondal has already mentioned that Cat Zingano video I posted yesterday:

[Only Registered Users Can See LinksClick Here To Register]

If I start debating that here, we'll get drawn away from Kayla and into yet another Ronda thread, which I know will upset the Male vs Female purists out there (you know who you are....)
