Will Cyborg vs Holm generate enough interest to sell? Can it create enough pre-fight buzz on a mixed wrestling fan board to sustain a thread??

If Cyborg wins, I will salute her as the GOAT of WMMA.

With long reigning and undefeated champs, Ronda and Joanna both losing, it puts into perspective how long Cyborg has been at the top. She rose to prominence in the late 2000s - years before the aforementioned had made their MMA debut - and defeated Gina to become Strikeforce 145 champ back in 2009. That was back when BJ Penn was still on top and Fedor was still the man at Heavyweight! It seems a life time ago in divisions that are almost unrecognisable today. But Cyborg remains queen of her division.

This provides a good opportunity for Cyborg to showcase her skills and beat Holly in a way no one else has.

But will she?

We know Holly has good footwork, a good straight left and perhaps most importantly, lethal head kicks that can render opponents unconscious.

But I feel both women are underrated in certain areas. Holly has a very good clinch. TBH, I thought de Randamie would get her in the plumb Muay Thai clinch and brutalise her ala A.Silva/Franklin but Holly was able to "wall n stall" Germaine for long periods of their fight and it was also an area Holly had success in against Valentina but didn't use enough.

Cyborg, we know has improved her Boxing and mixes up her striking a little more. But she has an underrated ground game. She has competed in and won international grappling competitions. When Miesha got Holly down in the 2nd(?) and 5th round of their fights, we saw that Holly's ground game was severely lacking. She panicked and was in trouble almost immediately on both occasions. Cyborg by submission may be a solid bet.

I feel like it's a big fight. I'm pumped and will definitely be watching.

Most fans just are not into Cyborg and virtually no one outside the sport knows who she is.

Within the MMA fan/media community, people want to like Holly Holm, but like us here, it's hard to look past her string of bad losses. Outside the sport, there are those who know she knocked out Ronda, but she's been unable to parlay that into much more than a couple of TV appearances. Holly Holm has 2 things America loves - blonde hair and pretty teeth (and she's not ugly) - but she's not a great interview and the *best* of Holly Holm existed long before she converted to MMA...though her name is a verb, so that's pretty cool.

The UFC put together a terrific promo ad for the fight that's running on FS1, but I'm following a lot of sports media and not hearing anything about Cyborg-Holm outside of the MMA shows. Next week may be different, but not even FOX Sports is talking about it now.

I'll be rooting for Holly Holm, but will need to see her hurt Cyborg early to have a real shot at the win.

Holly is a very good counter-striker, but I don't have tape on her showing that she knows how to stave off a brawl.

I don't know Cyborg's plan, but I imagine she's looking for a 1st-round KO, so I can easily envision Holly being in survival mode for the entire first 5 minutes. I'm not seeing a scenario where she intends to take the fight to Justine early, but if Holly does find an opening for a damaging counter, I would expect her to press right away.

Holly got 0 offense to the body. Good fight, actually went the distance, but pretty clear for Cyborg.

The first 2 rounds were pretty close, and I'm sure those are the ones that judges gave to Holly.

Great fight. Cyborg outclassed Holm in the striking department , and cruised through 5 rounds , seemingly without effort - very impressive victory. Both fighters did not go by their expected game plan - Holm did not go back and counter strike and Cyborg did not seriously attempt to take Holm down.
Very enjoyable fight, and cyborg’s victory is well deserved. For now she has no worthy opponents in the UFC.

Holly gets the "moral victory" in going the distance against Cyborg. Of course, the moral victory counts for exactly zero, but that's the way the cookie crumbles.

I would rather have a 105 lbs women's division than 145.

Me too. Being, of course, that’s there only one woman in the 145 division and the others, like Megan, Amanda, Germaine, and Holly are merely making guest appearances for the money.

Let Cyborg fight Gabi Garcia and see what it feels like to fight a woman 40 pounds heavier than her.

Strong performance by Cyborg.

I was really surprised to hear two judges scored it 48-47, giving Holly 2 rounds.

Since the fight was basically a kickboxing match, the striking stats pretty much tell the story.

Strikes by round:

1.
Cyborg 16
Holm 5

2.
Cyborg 21
Holm 4

3.
Cyborg 22
Holm 6

4.
Cyborg 20
Holm 9

5.
Cyborg 39
Holm 20

Headstrikes:
Cyborg 70
Holm 33

Bodystrikes:
Cyborg 29
Holm 8

Legstrikes:
Cyborg 19
Holm 3

Total strikes attempted
Cyborg: 237
Holm: 231

Total strikes landed
Cyborg 118
Holm 44

Brave effort from Holly, but the stats show she was outclassed in every round.
