I am actually more impressed with Cyborg now then ever before. She took an undefeated champion to the limit in a discipline she only fought two fights in. Very impressive!

That was a pretty sad display of lack of technique by Cyborg. If she is going to go around losing fights it's pretty hard to make a case for her even fighting Rousy. Let's face it, Cyborg's best chance of beating Rousy would be in keeping the fight standing and preventing Rousy from closing the distance. I can't say Cyborg looks capable of doing that after seeing her ineptitude in a Muay Thai. I doubt she will even be able to get a match with Rousy. I see her losing at 135 off the roids in one of her mandatory warm up fights she has to have for a fight with Rousy. She has Alistar Overeem written all over her.
You do realise that Muay Thai and MMA are totally different right? Look at Baars's record as an mma fighter, it's 1-3. So her loss to a Muay Thai expert who has won multiple titles and undefeated doesn't have any bearing on Cyborg imo.

Anyone who thinks this means she has no chance against Rousey is mistaken.

1. no they are not totally different. Muay Thai skills are fundamental in MMA. Many top MMA fighters came from Muay Thai. Golf and MMA are totally different.

2. If Cyborg gets a shot at Rousy (which at this point I doubt she will) Her best chance of winning will be in keeping the fight standing up. Her ability to do that will largely come from her Muay Thai skill set.

3. What I see in this Muay Thai match is a pretty mediocre Muay Thai skill set from Cyborg. Her technique is wild and sloppy, her footwork is linear and she has no ability to control the distance other than the bull rush which is the last thing anyone wants to do if they want to keep the fight standing up.

4. I don't think it means Cyborg has zero chance against Rousy. There is always some chance. I think it does show what little chance she has of even getting a fight with Rousy much less winning it. I see nothing in that fight that makes me thing Cyborg will be much of a threat to hurt Rousy in the stand up or to keep Rousy in the stand up and I still think once they go to the ground Rousy will own her. Well, actually I still think the fight will never happen because I think Cyborg will lose one of her mandatory MMA fights to show she can make weight.

5. What was clearly and painfully missing from Cyborg in that fight was her speed, explosiveness and athleticism from previous fights. Just like Overeem. Seemingly invincible on roids but nothing special off them. That was a very one sided beat down. Cyborg got completely schooled in the one discipline she is supposed to have the advantage in.

So an MMA fight which includes multiple disciplines of martial arts compared to Muay Thai itself is not different? Erm okay then.

Are you saying that Cyborg was supposed to have the advantage over a Muay Thai expert?

"For the people that says Jorina RIP..Jorina you can't fight Cris Cyborg...Jorina you're gonna die...Fuck You!" Jorina Baars is awesome!

I agree. I admit it. I love if Jorina gave my body a kickboxing lesson.

they are different. They are not *completely* different. How one does in Muay Thai does say something about how they will do in MMA in the stand up. There is a lot of cross over. If you want to keep a fight standing up you better have some real serious Muay Thai skills in MMA. Cyborg clearly does not have mad Muay Thai skills. I don't think she can keep a fight from going to the ground.

No, not what I was saying. I am saying she was supposed to have a substantial advantage over Rousy in that department. Enough to be the key to beating her should they ever get into the octagon. IMO Cyborg showed she does not have that advantage over Rousy. After seeing Rousy in some recent Muay Thai workouts I'm not sure Cyborg has much if any advantage over her in the standup at all anymore. Certainly not enough of an advantage to force Rousy into a stand up fight.

Also, quite significantly, what I saw was a substantial drop in Cyborg's overall athleticism. She is no where near as quick, strong or explosive as she used to be. She looked remarkably unremarkable.

Not sure how getting your ass kicked makes you look better. She got her ass kicked. That never happened when she was on roids. I suspect it's going to be a regular occurrence now that she has to fight clean.

How does going 5 rounds against Baars suggest that she doesn't have a substantial advantage over Rousey in that department?
