Yes, it's all math for the big players. To hell with feelings! lol

It's MMA, so a big striker like Joanna always has a chance to end a fight quickly, but given that she's had that muay thai success vs Joanna, I strongly expect Valentina to handle her business.

Yes, and Valentina absorbs fewer blows in stand-up than Joanna.

While there are no certainties in sports, the sides with superior defense usually win at the championship level.

She beat JJ 3x in Muay Thai, her lighter weight stable mate Rose Namajunas beat her twice in 5 round bouts. I've always assumed Val would beat Rose in a bout, but the road to perdition is strewn with assumptions...so anything can and often does, happen.

I'll pick Val, unless it's a full moon.

Weird to see Joanna acting so respectful and submissive around Valentina. She usually talked trash and taunted her opponents in her previous fights.

I think there can only be two explanations for this
1) She genuinely respects/fears Valentina (possibly due to being humbled by her three times already)
2) Maybe she thinks that this type of mind games wouldn't work on Valentina anyway

I have no idea how that will affect her fighting. She usually bullied fighters mentally before the fight and in some cases it helped her (Esparza, Gadelha and Karolina fights).

I've noticed that open workouts (of the ladies at least) are much rarer on youtube these days...
For instance, while Valentina and JJ's workouts have shown up because the fight is considered big enough, I can't find any of Claudia Gadelha's. Years ago it probably would have been on youtube.
Used to be, you could find several videos, some full length and from different angles.

Tough to say whether JJ has "it" like she used to have. Let alone at a heavier weightclass.

That said, I don't consider strikes or g'n'p to be the most likely end to this fight. Unless I'm mistaken, Valentina doesn't have a ton of stoppages like that on her record, and JJ was always more of an accumulation damage type of fighter. Something I'd expect to not be as effective at the higher weight class.

I think decision is most likely. Submission is theoretically possible because Valentina does have some skills in that area, but JJ always had good takedown defense. TKO 3rd most likely. We shall see, though.

A third of Valentina's 18 fights have gone to decision. But five those decisions have come since 2015 -- something that's common with older fighters.

Joanna (surprisingly) has gone to decision in 11 of her 17 fights.

Valentina isn't known for her BJJ, but she's submitted seven pro opponents. Joanna has only one submission has a pro, though she tapped Karolina Kowalkiewicz as an amateur.

Late money is coming in on Joanna, but that's only brought Valentina down to -300 (Joanna +265). The wife has invited friends over to watch Holloway-Ortega, so we're in.

I don't bet, but if I did, Joanna win via decision is an easy bet. Shevchenko is rightly the favorite, but +265 for JJ is dumb.

I know Valentina fought muay thai, but her stand-up technique is probably better than 90 or 95 percent of the guys in MMA.

If that weren't enough, those bridges and neck exercises she did were first-rate.
