Re: Your earliest memories.
An excellent point. Those small ads usually near the back of old 1970s boxing and wrestling magazines were my first exposure to mixed fighting as a fetish.

Re: Your earliest memories.
I was among those early advertisers, not with movie or pictures, but with unillustrated stories which, believe it or not, did sell.
Advertising in those magazines was the only way I knew to get the word out that I had something for sale. I had come upon those magazines in the usual way: the pursuit of articles about girl wrestlers. Sometimes, however, there were no such articles, just the ads. The magazines were not really aimed at people like us. When I first called a magazine and got an ad salesman, he said, "Hold on a minute." Then he shouted to a colleague: "I've got one of the idiots on the line." |

In the early 80s, pro wrestling mags were a hotspot for ads for mixed vids. I am so glad the Internet is here. |

Re: Your earliest memories.
Me too! Its revolutionised our world as well as everything else.
I met Carol Cleveland once, when I was a child - my family stayed in the same hotel - actually more like a boarding house. Lovely woman. Had no idea of any possible wrestling connection..... |

Re: Your earliest memories.
Yeah, those pro wrestling mags used to have ads from the likes of California Supreme and Swankyville. I remember looking through one, finding some ads and being surprised. I didn't expect to find anything like that even though it was what I was looking for!

Women used to advertise wrestling on the back of the Village Voice magazine as well. |

Re: Your earliest memories.
Watching Paul Newman get a kicking from Jenny Runacre (I think?) in The MacIntosh Man in the mid 1970s caused a stirring in me, despite the fact I can have only been about 10.

Re: Your earliest memories.
Yes the early wrestling mags and videos I used to buy or rent. Cavalier was one. There was a small store where I used to go to in SF that sold this and where you could rent videos too.

Re: Your earliest memories.
Jenny Runacre was in a few "off-beat" type movies. She was in Derek Jarman's Jubilee (1977) playing two parts, one a punk, the other Queen Elizabeth 1.
Best of all, she was the female lead in the absolutely fucking crazy film version of Michael Morecock's The Final Programme (1973) which is like a hilarious, piss-takey dystopian version of the avengers! It has to be seen to be believed. In both films she's involved in a fair bit of sex and violence. Let's face it - she had the physique and her face had the right kind of smirk for it! You should get both on torrent sites, if not, try Rarelust. Last edited by Billy Lunar; 31-Jan-19 at 07:04. |
