Let's name holds: double shoulder twist
Previous Let's Name threads:
- [Only Registered Users Can See LinksClick Here To Register] - [Only Registered Users Can See LinksClick Here To Register] What would you name this hold? Currently at Fight Pulse we use the name "arm stretch," which this hold is not. While stretching the arm(s) is part of it, it doesn't have to be. Double shoulder twist sounds ok, but I think we can come up with something better. Another option was strappado, which is a medieval torture method with similar mechanics, which is also why we passed on it. The attacker is usually straddling the defender's back, but can also be standing and treading on his / her back / neck / head to keep them down. Defender taps with his / her foot or submits verbally from the overstretching/wrenching of the shoulders. This can also be applied on one arm: [Only Registered Users Can See LinksClick Here To Register] [Only Registered Users Can See LinksClick Here To Register]

Re: Let's name holds: double shoulder twist
I would call that a double/single shoulder lock I think.

The traditional name for this hold in pro-wrestling circles is the Surfboard.

Re: Let's name holds: double shoulder twist
The one I have seen closer to this submission is the "Cattle mutilation" (photo attached) , but the person doing the submission is in front. In catch wrestling/Jiu-Jitsu, never seen it, the closest will be a shoulder lock, since the pressure is on the shoulder joint (with the danger of dislocation like the hamerlock/kimura).

Quote:
While in the pictures shown by Zweig you push down your opponent's chest flat on the mat, either by sitting on his back or pressing a foot on his upper back and you mainly attack his sholders. In a Surfboard hold you mainly attack your opponent's back, bending it back by pulling his upper body towards you while you are pressing down his lower back / hip with your foot. The pressure on the shoulders is a side effect. Nowadays the Romero Hold / Ceiling Hold goes under the term Surfboard too but in my opinion that's not correct. |

Re: Let's name holds: double shoulder twist
I like "strappado", because it is not often that one can use a historical name for a word. In the same time, it was a horrific torture, so it might not be of the best taste.
