Thanks for all that info, really interesting. I see Lynetta beat her sister Nancy at boxing. Was it a ko?

No, it was not a KO, but it was a decisive win as Lynetta bashed Nancy around the ring for the entire fight. Nancy didn't have much idea when it came to boxing, and Lynetta had more success as a boxer than as a wrestler, at least in the matches that were released. Although Lynetta was small she was quite strong, particularly later in her fighting career. Have a close look at the last photo in the first message where I posted pics of Lynetta (#218, boxing Donna) and note the muscle definition in her right arm and shoulder.

Looking in more detail at the wrestling matches they had in 1977 and 1978, in 1977 Susan had 7 matches for 4 wins, 1 loss and 2 draws. That same year Lynetta had 29 matches for 15 wins, 11 losses and 3 draws. In 1978 Susan had 22 matches for 16 wins, 5 losses and 1 draw, while Lynetta had 18 matches for 11 wins, 3 losses and 4 draws.

So over those 2 years Susan had 20 wins from 29 wrestling matches (69%) and Lynetta had 26 wins from 47 matches (55%). Both are much better winning records than in their released matches which were 50% for Susan and 17% for Lynetta.

The fact that Judell did allot of matches at the Amazon that were not made into videos or films is news for me. The ones that she didn’t sell must of been one sided blow outs or some other reason she feel the product would not move ? I wonder what percentage of matches that happened at the Amazon got sold ?

Not necessarily the case. There were probably a number of girls/women who wrestled at The Amazon that did it just for fun and exercise and did not want their matches filmed. Brandy Hawke once said to me that less than 10% of the girls/women who wrestled at her group were willing to have their matches filmed.

Also you have to think of the supply/demand balance. If you look at the Skarvan sisters as an example and the number of matches they had, which were as follows;
1977: Nancy 25, Susan 7, Lynetta 29
1978: Nancy 20, Susan 22, Lynetta 18

Ignoring the fact that there may have been a few matches against each other that is a total of 121 matches. Do you really think there would have been a demand for that many matches featuring the Skarvan sisters over a 2 year period. Also you have to consider the cost to produce filmed matches such as paying the girls, cost of video tapes to produce copies for sale, etc. Sales obviously had to cover the cost so it would not have been good business to flood the market..

As for the percentage of matches that got released if you compare the figures above for how many matches each of the Skarvan sisters had in those 2 years with the matches released from their records which I have uploaded previously that will give you an idea.

I have figures for about 13 or 14 girls for each of 1977 and 1978, and if you compare the total number of matches each of them had with the number released in each of those years then released as a percentage of total matches is about 12.5% in 1977 and 8.5% in 1978.

Yes, she wrote that in her newsletter, saying some of the matches weren't released because of one-sidedness on the part of the girl or guy, she didn't specify what % though.

Well even after all these years I am still learning things about the old Amazon. If only about 10% of the matches were released to the public there was a ton of matches at the Amazon. It makes me wish every harder that I would have been able to visit Judel’s Place back in the day. To bad that I was too young and broke.

Well AK, here is a bit more info about The Amazon in California for you to ponder. If you have a look at the attached table it gives the number of matches some of the girls had in each of 1977 and 1978, and compares that with the number that were released. Lets take 1977 and examine it in a bit more detail. We know that some of the girls on that list had matches against girls that are not on the list (eg: Nancy had matches against Margo Gowan and Penny Ryan in 1977). However, lets assume that most of the matches that any girl on that list had were against other girls on that list, then that would give approx. 150 matches (297/2) in the year. By comparison there were about 20 matches released (37/2 + a few against girls not on the list).

Unfortunately I only have that level of detail for those 2 years, but next time I communicate with Jacqy I may ask if she has it for other years.

In addition to that 150 matches there would no doubt have been a lot of matches involving girls who just wrestled for fun and did not want to have their matches filmed. As I mentioned in a previous post, Brandy Hawke once said to me that only about 10% of the girls who wrestled at her establishment were prepared to appear on film. I have no doubt it was similar at The Amazon. Of course even of those 150 odd matches involving girls that were prepared to appear on film many of them were not filmed, and some that were may have turned out to be more one sided than Judell had expected so the film was not released.

Of course even if most of those 150 had been filmed and released we would, as you said, been too broke to buy all of them. I suspect that Jack Snr., as the marketing arm of the organisation, had a good handle on how much material the market would bear and made sure they did not flood it.

In AIA No 92 they announced that Judell had retired and the Washington Amazon had closed. In the next issue, No 93, which was published mid 2 000, the printed the attached "tribute" to Judell.

Unfortunately I believe No 93 was also the last issue of Amazons in Action.
Added after 7 minutes:

WOW- Ian, who is the deeply tanned blonde that is really working Judell with a chinhold here? Amazing pics thanks

If you scroll your mouse over each pic it will give you the title of that pic. I presume you are talking about the one titled "Judell vs Phoebe". Not sure where that came from but I think it was from an unreleased match, so maybe one that Judell sent me.

Ian, do you have any more photos from the Camp Amazons matches beyond the Skarvan sisters, maybe with Cindy Brooks, Liz Meles, Karen Arnold, Treena Antonelli?
