Re: Valentina Shevchenko Vs. Joanna Jedrzejczyk
Well, it went the distance and Val won. Not a surprising outcome; neither of those ladies is really a consistent finisher.

Re: Valentina Shevchenko Vs. Joanna Jedrzejczyk
Valentina did what she had to do to win, but was not impressive. Worse than that...she was boring. As a technician, I liked that she made sure to collect points whenever they were available. I wanted to see a better ground display than she showed.
That said, I'm predicting she will be able to hold onto the 125 belt for the next 18-24 months.

I didn't see the fight, but ESPN's numbers indicate Valentina landed more significant strikes to the head, Joanna to the body, with leg kicks about even. So it sounds like the judges could have given Valentina the decision because she won the takedown battle, 5-0. |

Kinda leaves me with new found respect for Rose. Obviously she knocked Joanna out in their first fight, but in the second, Joanna was buckled and staggered numerous times and was much more bloodied up at the end than she was in this fight. |

Re: Valentina Shevchenko Vs. Joanna Jedrzejczyk
Valentina's corner kept telling her not to make any mistakes, and that held true, unfortunately it made for a dull fight. I was hopeful early on that she'd be able to pick JJ apart leading to a slobberknocker as JJ fell further behind, but she was content to outspeed and do some flashy moves and takedowns to guarantee the W. She even lost the last round. Certainly makes Rose's victories look more impressive.

Re: Valentina Shevchenko Vs. Joanna Jedrzejczyk
If I remember correctly, Rose also made a crucial takedown in the 2nd JJ fight to steal one of the close rounds later on. Valentina's performance was much more dominant over a better version of JJ in her optimal weightclass. You could argue that Valentina won every round or at least 4 like the judges had it. Most people had Rose winning 3 rounds, including myself.
After the 2nd Rose fight Joanna was convinced that she won, after the Valentina fight, however, Joanna was humble and accepted her defeat. Joanna doesn't have the same respect for Rose. She thinks she can beat Rose but when it comes to Valentina she accepts her as the better woman. To me this shows that Valentina was a tougher fight for her. Ask Joanna who the better fighter is between Rose and Valentina and she will definitely say Valentina and who knows better than someone who actually fought both? Rose is also humble around Valentina and probably accepts her as the better fighter too. There were clips from them sparring and Valentina was getting the better of her and gave her black eye. Rose came to train with Valentina to learn, not the other way around. Rose won't even dare to challenge Val at 125. The fans can compare the fights and have their own opinion but there's a reason why every girl 125 and lower is scared/respectful of Valentina (but not of Rose or Joanna). The fighters know that she is the best, that she is the girl to beat. They see and hear more things than the fans know and know what's up. Like I pointed out before the fight, even the cocky Joanna didn't talk trash to Valentina and was humble. |

Points fighting is dull, but it wins bouts and reduces the damage combatants suffer. Many coaches now follow the Jackson Wink model. |
