Re: Sally McNeil anniversary
Again, regardless of whether she is a good person or a bad person -- or something in between -- the reason Sally McNeil is being remembered at this time is that on March 19 she will have been behind bars for 20 years on a 19-to-life sentence and far distanced from the fetish wrestling scene that she once dominated.
I certainly do not want to discourage open dialogue about this subject and I respect the opinions of all of those who are upset or angry that I have offered a “tribute” to a convicted murderer by starting this thread. I understand your concerns. But I am not trying to lionize Sally McNeil. My main reasons for starting this thread was to get an update on Sally’s parole board status from a fan in the know, hear stories from men who actually wrestled her and to spark nostalgia by bringing up the 21st anniversary of her killing Ray McNeil on Valentine’s Day with my original Valentine’s Day post. Despite the many excellent responses and observations posted here, I really have not got those questions answered, nor have I really evoked any warm and fuzzy memories of poor, poor Sally. So, just to play devil’s advocate, I will try to defend Sally as best I can. In her time, Sally was the very best on the then fledgling fetish wrestling scene. She was in high demand for videos. She was a powerful dynamo that male session wrestlers sought out as their No. 1 choice for a match. The slaying of her husband shocked the public because of its sheer brutality and because Sally was a quasi-celebrity – not for her fetish wrestling but for her women’s bodybuilding competitions. When Sally used the defense that she had been physically and sexually abused by her large bodybuilder husband, many friends, women’s rights groups and male clients came out in support of her. (If you remember, the long-ignored issue of helping battered women was becoming a hot-topic media cause in the 1990s.) There were letter-writing campaigns to court officials and efforts to use Sally to promote the cause of rights for battered women. What threw a wrench into that defense was that Sally was so impressively muscular that a lot of people had difficulty buying the argument that any man could so harm her without taking a severe beating in return from the blonde bombshell. Also, at the time, fetish wrestling was really taboo. It was pretty much limited to tiny ads in the back of bodybuilding and pro wrestling magazines and the darker side of the Internet, which was in its infancy and not yet the powerful force it would became to make the porn industry more mainstream. When it became known that Sally was the family’s primary bread-winner and that she earned a bulk of her income from ‘rasslin’ with strange men in no-tell motels and other private venues, some members of the public started to view her more as a prostitute with a tendency toward rough play than a long-suffering housewife. It was reported at the time that Sally’s slap-and-tickle fights with guys for money was a major source of tension in Sally and Ray’s marriage relations. And the prosecution uncovered -- and well demonstrated to the jury -- that Sally was more of an abuser than an abused person. She had severely beaten one woman who had made advances toward Ray. Other observers reported that on occasions they saw Sally abusing Ray. Sally was noted industry-wide for her temper, especially on the sets of wrestling videos that she more than willingly participate in for public sale and profit. In the end Sally was convicted – and rightly so -- but her most loyal supporters stood by her through countless appeals that have all been denied. The last appeal I believe was – pardon the expression-- shot down in 2013. Sally continues to be housed in California’s largest women’s prison. My curiosity is that if Sally, at age 56, were to be released, establish a fetish wrestling Web site and return to the sport that she pioneered, do any of you think she would have a large following of session wrestlers once again seeking her out? Or, like some folks here, do you believe that the fact that she murdered one man who pissed her off will dissuade potential customers from seeking her services? I personally think she would be popular and in high demand once again. |

Re: Sally McNeil anniversary
The age-old question about whether one pays one's debt to society, or whether society has forgiven them their debt. As a one-time friend of Sally's, and veteran of many vids with her, I saw her sweet side, and the side of her that cared passionately for the well-being of her two children.
While some here (admittedly more well-informed on the topic than I) might disagree, steroids figured in heavily, I was told. R had a nice sports car, and following a particularly bad argument during a workout, S went outside with a 25 pounder and put it through his windshield. All I know is that she could be an absolute doll. I feel like she deserves a bit of benefit of the doubt. That's just me. Last time I saw her (circa '94) she had her arm around me crying with laughter as she and Laura Vukov and I watched "Blankman" on TV. |

Re: Sally McNeil anniversary
I think its a moot point because Sally, if she gets paroled, would be wise not to go back into session wrestling. Unfortunately it still has a stigma associated to it by law enforcement people. She will still be closely moitored. They will try to claim she is engaging in prostitution.
Finally, I, personally, would have no interest in sessioning with her, nor would I want to contribute, in any way, to further legal problems that might result. |

Re: Sally McNeil anniversary
What evidence do you have for that statement?
I would doubt law enforcement people even know about session wrestling; or would care much about it. Maybe wrong however. Certainly, to some people it would look like prostitution. But it would probably be a better source of income than most ex-prisoners have. |

Re: Sally McNeil anniversary
Law enforcement knows very well about session wrestling and its existence. Evidence as follows:
1. I have been told by someone who runs a wrestling agency (and confirmed by several girls there) that some of the customers are cops. 2. When certain "high profile madams" have been arrested certain wrestling agencies pretty much shut down for a short time as cops begin looking over their shoulders more closely - again as told to me by someone who runs such an agency 3. A well known independent session wrestler who has been around awhile and travels frequently told me she has had a few sessions with customers who left after a short time (not alleging any problems), after they had seen that she was not offering any sexual services whom she believed were undercover cops. The customers were not unhappy with the wrestling services she provided nor did they complain about the wrestling being "too rough" or too easy". 4. There have been several session wrestlers (Lia and Amrita are just a couple of the ladies who have made this known) who were stopped by authorities when entering countries concerning their intentions and advised them what they were doing. 5. A wrestling convention ( I don't remember the exact year, but it was in southern California a few years ago) being abruptly halted and shut down by law enforcement claiming they did not have proper permits for the type of "activity" being presented. I could go on, however anyone who thinks that the area police do not know about session wrestling and what is going on is naive. |
