Anyone know what her ethnic heritage was? With the name Momo I always thought she was Hawaiian or Asian mix, but she looks more latin/white from these shots.

It turns out that Virago was stronger than DWW, what difference does it make in what style of wrestling, scissors are prohibited in freestyle wrestling. I read that Hana was the best in the tournament, but how? Where did the organizers look? If anyone has the results of the tournament, I will be glad and grateful.
Virago was definitely stronger because they practiced BJJ, which is the ultimate weapon in wrestling. Hana was considered the best because she was the only one to win a match at the 1998 convention against Virago, beating Momo 3-2. Helen beat Denise and Elena, Josephine beat Tatjana and Jett beat Edita. Iva and Vera I believe beat Tamarah and Tempest from Virago at the later convention. I also remember Tiffany beating Cody and Vera beating Amy, but that was at the 2001 convention, which was held on mats and not inside a ring.

Well, we're talking about 1998, Josephine, Tatiana,Edina, Tempest were not there. I really hoped for a fight between Hana and Helen, but Helen fights with Momo, Hana with Vera, I don’t understand this, and Denise and Vera are generally strange.

To be honest, I'm not sure how the matches were setup and who was in charge of the whole thing. There was a VHS tape released by DWW (DWW-EU-059) that had all their matches from this event. Hana and Denise also wrestled Vera and Nicole. I'm guessing this was just a showcase to sell their VHS tapes and get people on their mailing list. Their owner was very old school and pretty much shutdown the company once the digital/download era began.

I recently stumbled upon a Helen vs Ziggy match from 2002 and in the pre-match interview Helen states that she started wrestling in 1998. If that is true, that means she was basically a rookie at this event. That's hard to believe since she looked so technically skilled in her matches vs Denise and Momo.

From the Wayback Machine and the old Virago website.

We're fond of this picture by Penumbra. It reveals mutual intensity better than words could. Helen (upside down) and Momo in the first match of the first Women's Wrestling Convention, 1998.
So now we know that this was the first ever match at the WWC.

Had a bit of time on my hands today and after digging through the old Virago website, I found an ad for the VHS tape.

Quote:
VV-1: Women's Wrestling Convention '98

Three matches, taped before enthusiastic live audiences at the 1998 Women's Wrestling Convention: (1) Fuchsia (120 lbs.) v. Jezebel (105 lbs), in an intense, fast-moving bout; (2) Helen (140 lbs.) v. the lovely Denise, of DWW (133 lbs.), in a special-request match for Barbara, webmaster of the Combative Woman Web Site; and (3) Momo (138 lbs.) v. Hana, of DWW (130 lbs.) -- many people have called this one of the best submission-style matches they've ever seen, as Momo, who has tremendous natural ability and a height/weight advantage, met the smaller but more experienced Czech, a gutsy and impressive technical wrestler. This went three falls and the outcome was in doubt all the way. We had two videotapes of this match, so we threw them both in for different angles. 85 minutes, U.S. $49.
Photo of Fuchsia before her match vs Jezebel and a shot from the Helen-Denise match.

The reason why Helen and Stacy beat the pants off of everyone they faced is that they put their jiu jitsu skills to good use, giving them a big advantage.
