Man I hate to see this because tbh, these types of matches are my favorite to watch.
You absolutely can do competitive size mismatches safely. Fight Pulse does it frequently. Doom Maidens and Fighting Dolls have also done it pretty regularly, among others. I've even done it via custom. I ordered a match between Mistress Kara (who is 5'7 ~165) and a gymnast who was 4'9 and about 90 lbs. Turned out great. But you need to have good communication, to establish clear rules to protect the participants, and to ensure those rules are followed. Also, it generally doesn't matter as much how well trained the small girl is, but you absolutely want to ensure the big girl has a good amount of experience because you want to make sure she has sufficient body control to not spaz out and hurt her much smaller opponent. Not saying that's what happened here because I haven't seen the match, but just offering some general guidelines for how this type of match can be put together safely. Regardless of weight differential, allowing standing is pretty much never a good idea. Not sure what led to that in the clip Skylar posted or if it's something they agreed was ok beforehand, but it greatly increases the risk of injury in my experience. Unfortunately, sometimes the smaller woman will do that in these situations to try to neutralize the size difference, which is frustrating. Not saying Ziva did that here because, again, I haven't seen the match. But just another guideline that I think needs to be enforced in order to do these matches safely. |

I am just going to post the facts that I know. I was at the event but not in that room when that match was happening. Though Jennifer was the host/organizer of the event, these matches where all paid for by producers or individual sponsers for matches. Any and all of these matches could have been declined by the participants at any time prior to or during the event. All athletes where asked to sign liability waivers prior to participating in the event and fully knew that the potential for things happening existed. From what I have been told (from athletes, producers, etc.) all of the matches that took place during the after party (when this match in question was held) where supposed to fantasy unless something more was agreed upon by the participants, thus no need for a referee or anything else. Security had other things they where paying attention too, and quite honestly the room that match took place in was tiny, the mat took up probably half of the available floor space, if not more. I am sure there was at least a half a dozen spectators and no one seemed compelled to step in.
Again I was not directly involved in the match in any way, and I was not ring side for it (I avoided that room as it was tiny and hot). Things happen, people go too hard at times. You had two athletes who have been in this game a bit, a camera person and a producer/sponser that would have directly involved in the match. That twitter thread is wild, I do not take sides of the he said, she said stuff. Again, I was not in the room, and I am sure no one in there was wanting to step in and intervene as these women are both acting and fighting sometimes that line is impossible to tell. It is a tough situation. I was not going to reply at all but I see a lot of missinformation in places and a lot of finger pointing from people who where not there. It is a crap situation. |

Because the social costs of taking action if it does turn out to be nothing are high and she's friends with Tempest, not Ziva. Plus "not my job" (which it isn't).

Man, I'd love to attend one of these. I did go to a couple of the Femwin ones back in 2014-2015 and had a great time.

This is the main thing I always preach when it comes to competitive wrestling matches. If you know your opponent is like twice your size don’t be shocked when they toss you around like a ragdoll. Now, if you’re skilled enough to take down larger opponents, sure, but if you’re not a consistent competitive wrestler, you’re more than likely going to end up hurt. I’ve wrestled plenty of women that were bigger than me, the same size as me, and some even smaller, but I only wrestle women who have a lot of experience at competitively wrestling men. |
