Re: Hong Kong Battling Babes on DVD
I've already posted images from these fights in the old judo thread, where they're more likely to be seen by non-Sinophiles. But there's little point opening a thread for Hong Kong Babes and then not using it. So here are some of the remaining offcuts.
It's the always cute - and seemingly always yellow-dressed - Pei-Pei Cheng from 1967's Operation Lipstick. She has two main action set-pieces, where she firstly exchanges judo throws on one roof; then she dashes up to another roof to take on a whole gang of henchmen. The first guy to pop his head above the parapet gets it used like a football. But after a bit more judo, the sheer weight of numbers left our heroine in peril. |

Re: Hong Kong Battling Babes on DVD
Just a quick homage to the legendary Kara Wai (formerly Kara Hui). She's now in her 60s and still very much active in HK cinema, though these images are from the ten-year-old - and not-very-imaginatively-titled - Dragon.
It's interesting to see how the former cutie Waif-Fu babe has matured into the Auntie From Hell in her recent roles. But she's still kicking male ass - in this case Donnie Yen's character, in front of his embarrassed wife and crying children. He refuses to kneel, so she kicks him to the ground and pins him there with a booted foot on his chest. Scary. |

Re: Hong Kong Battling Babes on DVD
Here's an example of a recent style of HK action flick that I've personally dubbed 'Contemporary Realistic'. I hope that doesn't sound too pretentious, but I think it's an accurate moniker. What it means is they've done away with: historical costumes and superhero/fetish outfits; wirework and CGI; standing jumps onto rooftops and high tree branches; and scenes where a solitary heroine defeats an army of 100+ armed warriors in two minutes flat. And this is what we have instead...
She's an off-duty policewoman, trained in combat but also very human and sometimes vulnerable. She knows she will always struggle against a much bigger male if he's equally skilled, and so needs to use her brain to supplement the brawn if she's to have any chance of emerging triumphant. She gives herself a head start by throwing salt (or something similar) into her opponent's eyes. She also uses whatever restaurant equipment is to hand as weapons. And wherever the opportunity arises, she leaps onto nearby tables to reverse his height advantage. Even so, by the end of the scrap, we find her locked in a painful bearhug; needing to be rescued by her partner (not shown here). |

Re: Hong Kong Battling Babes on DVD
I was just thinking 'Well, that one went down like a lead balloon' when a couple of you passed by and left your regards. So I'll carry on.
Doesn't she look much cuter in her police uniform? [1] But let's see how she gets on back at the station, where it's just been invaded by Triad types. And it's not very well at the beginning it seems; our gun-toting heroine is easily distracted [2-3] giving the bad guy an opportunity to grapple with her for control of the weapon [4-6]. Thankfully, once things switch to unarmed combat, she comes into her own. Go! Police Judo Girl! [7-8]. But she's soon in danger again when a serious looking knife is threatening to carve her a new belly button [9-10]. So it's time to put into practice all those hours of self-defence training in the Police Gymnasium. That's it; you've done it dozens of times before - now do it for real. The knife-wielding thug is slammed into the wall [11-13], then taken to ground and expertly disarmed [14-17]. |

Re: Hong Kong Battling Babes on DVD
Time to say goodbye with another quick scene. Notice how the policewoman's male colleague supports her by helpfully pointing a torch at the villains, so she can see who she's punching and kicking.
For anybody who didn't know but wants to, this is Celina Jade's screen debut Legendary Assassins, filmed five years before she embarked on her recurring role in TVs Arrow-verse. |

In the meantime, that middle one was easy. You only had to look at the next post (#36, link added below) to see the conclusion followed by an image of my source DVD. [Only Registered Users Can See LinksClick Here To Register] |

Re: Hong Kong Battling Babes on DVD
Thanks a lot buddy!
Sometimes, I don't watch wisely ^^; Also, I sometime don't watch picture thread for few weeks, and have millions of posts to see, when at least I remember to go back on pages. I can't wait to have the other references. I really like these kind of movies.

The stills I posted came from the most commonly available decent quality version around today - which is a German DVD release re-titled Das Todesschwert Der Ninja [2-3]. The two butt-kicking ladies in this weird mash-up are pictured together below [4]. The actresses names are Laura Yang and Yolanda Kuk - though I never quite figured out which one was the butch lesbian - and which one was still cheering on General Lee [5-6]. BTW: I couldn't find my spare stock of unused images, so those worse-than-normal screenshots below are from the Web. Hope all is clear now! |
