I never fancied Ms. Hepburn much, even in her early days. But my interest was piqued when I read she'd been specifically chosen for a role - due to her genuine profiency in a wide variety of sports. Well, we can always hope, can't we? Let's see what we got.

There was no chance of seeing Cheerleader Movie-type nudity in the Ladies Locker Room. But when she did strip off as much as was allowed in those days, we saw what looked like a real sportswoman's lean body [1-5].

As for the sports themselves, it was good to see her legs in short skirts when thrashing a male tennis player 6-0 [6-9]. There was also plenty of Golf (which I've skipped over), and a bit of Rifle Shooting (ditto).

Sadly all we got of Boxing was her brief comment: "Sure I box; but only with proper 16-ounce gloves, not the lightweight 8oz type."

And I knew there wouldn't be much for us, when one of the male characters spouted: "Nah! Ladies Wrestling? Girls in the ring is just wrong somehow; it shouldn't be allowed."

I think her final sport was swimming, but she forgot to bring the pool [10-14].

Take a look at this, though. I can't believe such a consummate actress would be caught gurning straight into the lens, when it wasn't part of the script [15]. Even though it was a fleeting glimpse I hadn't noticed first time around. Maybe she'd seen the cameraman enjoying her exercising, and realised that the erection he'd brought along wasn't the camera's tripod after all [16].

Then, after some more shots of her very decent thighs [17-18], she seemed to briefly 'Break The Fourth Wall' again with a message for us: "See you again soon, Femdom Lovers" [19-20].

The film is called “Pat and Mike”, I believe, costarring Spencer Tracy. There are a couple scenes where she beats up a young Charles Bronson using judo and karate.

OK, so we didn't get any Boxing or Wrestling out of her. Incidentally, it was reported that Katharine was filmed performing a few other sports, that didn't make the final cut for timing reasons. But sadly that was long before they started keeping all the unused footage for future DVD Extras.

After that letdown, though, let's see what we did get from her. And it's a demonstration of self-defence - or maybe 'self-attack', bearing in mind she's not the one being manhandled by this pair of thugs.

Her first move is to pull the legs from under one guy; it's the sort of thing you see clowns doing to each other in the circus [1-4]. And it looked to be filmed from across the street, so we'll quickly leave that behind. Next comes a Karate Chop to the neck [5-8], and that's followed by a move straight from the pages of 'Brutal Street Fighting For Demure Ladies (1950)'

She not only pushes his nose up halfway into his brain [9-15], but Katharine can think as well as beat up men. She renders him useless in a fight - by removing and throwing away his spectacles [16-18]. Atta Girl!

Having rendered the taller attacker useless, Katharine goes to comfort her Beau [1-2]. But look! Now the shorter guy is coming at them [3-4]. He must have a 'Death Wish' or something Ah - he's pulled out a concealed weapon, thinking it's enough to give him an advantage.

No problem; she intercepts his striking arm [5-8]; twists the hand that's holding the weapon [9-11]; and takes it off him "like candy from a baby" (as the old cliche goes) [12-14]. Then she cracks him on the head, so he knows what it feels like [15-17]. The sharp blow knocks him out, and he collapses to the ground [18-20].

The big guy initially forgets about the specs, and starts to run for his life before the she-devil comes back to mangle him again. But, like someone stumbling across a car crash, he can't help watching the disaster unfold [21], as his partner-in-crime is easily subdued by a 45-year-old 'delicate' female.

"Here it is; a heavy little cosh - small enough to fit inside a woman's purse. But don't worry, those hoodlums can fight me with any weapon they like. They'll still have no chance against my Judo!" [22-23]

Shortly afterwards, the police arrived and took all four of them back to the station, along with a couple of witnesses [1]. The Captain simply couldn't believe that a pair of known hoodlums could be overpowered and subdued at all by a polite woman - let alone so easily. So he demanded a demonstration.

And that means more pain for the smaller guy, when she re-enacts how she dragged him to the ground [2-7]. This time, however, she's a bit more polite towards the victim straight afterwards, checking if he's OK [8-9]. But he's having none of it.

"Get your hands off me, Bully! Ya see, it's like this officer; she'd never have gotten me down if it wasn't for the element of surprise. No woman can take me in a fair fight ." [10-11]

It is indeed the young Mr. Buchinski as he was then, in only his second screen appearance.

The Judo Mistress isn't just supremely skilled, though - she's strong too! Katharine acts out the next sequence by showing how the bigger guy attacked her man. She gives him a gentle push on the chest, but doesn't know her own strength. The force knocks the guy off-balance, sending him stumbling across the room [12-16].

Oh no, she's going after Charlie again [17-18]. I smell trouble coming the poor guy's way.

Yes indeed; she only needs one hand to force him down to the ground at her feet [1-4]. And this is the last chapter, I promise!

"Of course I could easily floor him at any time using my leg to perform a Judo Throw like this. But sometimes it's better just to hold them in place, watching the fear and humiliation grow on their faces. [7-12]

"And the best thing about subduing men so easily with just one hand, is that it leaves the other one free. I can gently slap them on the face with it, just to admonish them for challenging me. Or I can knock them out with a Karate Chop to the neck. Watch this. [13-21]

Ah look; that's another Judo Dummy gone. Perhaps I'd better stop now. By the way, did you know I used to wrestle in my youth too? In my teenage years we girls formed a 'Society of Amazons'. We used to capture young men; dress up as Amazons & Gladiators; and then fight them until they submitted to female superiority. But I suppose that's a tale best left for another time... [22-23]
