Ann Casey & The Amazon ???
I was wondering if Ann Casey did any wrestling at the old Amazon ? I came across a photo of her in the Amazon ring. If I remember correctly Penny Banner spent some time there too but never did any wrestling.

Re: Ann Casey & The Amazon ???
I think a couple of female professional wrestlers wrestled at the Amazon, maybe around 1981. I think Judell wanted to see if professional wrestlers could or even would wrestle for real. I never did buy the match, and I don't think Judell had professional wrestlers come again. But I didn't think Ann Casey was one of the two professional wrestlers who were at the Amazon. By the way, Ann Casey was featured in some of the professional wrestling magazines of the 1970's, around the same time that many of Judell's matches were also featured in the pro wrestling magazines.

Re: Ann Casey & The Amazon ???
Evelyn Stevens and Maria DeLeon were the two pro wrestlers who actually tried an Amazon-style match. On separate occasions, Judell had Ann and Penny Banner over, and I believe photos were taken. They worked out and did some ring work with Judell, IIRC, but neither had an actual match with her.

Re: Ann Casey & The Amazon ???
Some time ago I decided to send all my old original brochures from The Amazon to Jacqy because I decided they would be better in her collection than eventually being consigned to the dust bin if I kept them. However, I did keep a scan of her last full list from the California days, so below are releases involving Pro wrestlers and a few other unusual ones.
Item 41: 10 page cartoon Judell and Lady Lust. That would have been released late 1976. I have no idea who Lady Lust was. Item 83: 8 pages of cartoons Judell faces a Pro Wrestler. Released mid 1977. item 256: Penny Banner visits The Amazon. I would estimate was released early 1981. My recollection is Judell said Penny would not wrestle any of her girls. Item 271: Pro Wrestler Evelyn Stevens lifts weights. Items 272/272: Pics and film of Evelyn Stevens wrestling Maria De Leon. Those would have been released late 1981. Items 280/281: Pics and film of body builder Robin Tuttle. Released late 1981. Item 315: Pics of Judell vs Lana Messer. No idea who lana was. maybe a Pro Wrestler? Only time she appeared. Released early 1982. Item 326: Pics. Ann Casey visits The Amazon. Mid 1982. Items 393/394: Part 1 was a match between Treena and Jeanine and Part 2 was a Penny Banner interview. Released June 1983 and presumably filmed at a second visit she made to The Amazon because her first visit was before video was used. Item 399: Body Builder Mary Dickerson. Released mid 1983. Item 400: On the catalogue as Judell vs Pat Garcy. I do wonder if this is a typo because at that time (mid 1983) the Garvey sisters (Linda & Shirleen) were at The Amazon and I believe that Judell's opponent may have been their mother. Interestingly there is nothing in the catalogue about Ann Casey visiting The Amazon in 1985, which is the date on one of the photos previously uploaded. I also find it interesting that the second line has been covered up after the word "To". All this is just taken from the catalogue. When I get time I will dig out the films and see if that sheds any more light on these. |

Re: Ann Casey & The Amazon ???
That was allot of good information about Pro Wrestlers at the Amazon. I can understand why a big name pro like Penny or Ann wouldn’t want to get in the ring at the Amazon. Think about it, they aren’t use to the submission type matches and they are getting matched up with women that are much younger. If they would lose, there would be videos and photos out there of them getting their butts kicked by some young no name in a real submission match - not good for their careers.
