Ah well; it's been a bit of a disappointing week, with very little to show for many hours of screen time. Maybe next week I'll target my selection rather than just expecting relevant action to pop up on randomly-selected DVDs. But here's a little contribution before I go back to work. It's an example of Verscont's Law, by which 'The Clarity of Screenshots is Inversely Proportional to the Quality of the Fighting Therein'.

[1-9] I often describe a woman's legs as her best weapons which, strictly speaking, isn't true. Her best weapon is actually sex - or the lure of it, as we see here. I thought this was a Naught Nun at first sight , but she's far more brutal than that. She teases the armed guard and then stabs him. And then stabs him again; just to make sure. Next she worries that somebody may think she's a Naughty Nun , and so quickly changes into the clothes of a nearby serving wench. But she's immediately spotted by further armed guards who are quick to give chase.

[10-18] She kicks well, but the follow-up isn't really a throw - she just ducks under the attack. And there are only so many gun-toting guards you can defeat without a weapon yourself. So she's captured and taken to the dungeon where they chain her up for a beating. And we end with her lovely face bathed in the mysterious light that only ever shines on cinema's religious martyrs.

Remember the first day of training for the new burger flipper? [1] Well now it's the last day of probation, with just one final test to undertake before she becomes a bona fide Bnrger King Zero Hours Contract Holder. So after the store closes, they move outside to the Drive-Through area to avoid the girl's blood splattering on the fries like a burst ketchup sachet.

We see it's a real family occasion too - with her relatives and friends invited to watch co-workers taking turns to kick her teeth out. But sadly she lacks what it takes to be a real Burger Team Player. There may be no 'I' in TEAM, but she shows one girl there are two of them in "Take this, Bitch!" [12-14]

[Actually, I haven't a bloody clue what's really going on here. But I'm sure Bnrger King must have been delighted at its impact on recruitment.]

Don't worry about her becoming jobless after this display of non-conformity with corporate bullying standards. Minutes later she looked like she's joined the Korean Special Forces in this fetching wetsuit [16-18].

Back to something we all understand today; a masked intruder attacks an unsuspecting victim in her bathroom. Sadly, she's not taking a shower, but you can't have everything. And so the timid slip of a girl...

Hang on! She may not be a bodybuilder, but there's nothing slight or timid-looking about this lady [1-2]. If I was the would-be assassin, I'd want to be on a faraway rooftop with a long-range rifle. And that's before I knew about her martial arts expertise. But it's too late now, so he's already up close and personal with only a knife to help him. Oh dear! The poor guy is so outclassed I almost feel sorry for him.

She easily disarms Ninja Man and kicks him across the room towards the door. Yes, the door, you idiot! Get out now while you can! But no, he picks up a nearby pair of scissors or something like that, and prepares for Round Two. Which is every bit as one-sided as their initial tussle. He finishes be learning the hard way that you shouldn't take on a female whose knee is bigger than your head.

[I think I've found the actress involved at the end there. And if you're thinking those biceps aren't as impressive as I made out, look closely and you'll see she's not flexing them but playing the castanets.]

I don't think there's ever been a better illustration of my disinterest in F/M than this post. Which when I read that back, actually sounds a bit rude toward Verscont, so do let me explain!

It's not the actual post itself I'm talking about, but my initial reaction to it. Because I was convinced the woman in question seemed familiar. A quick search of the name kindly supplied by Verscont (and which Google really thinks you've mis-typed Kirstie Alley, no matter how many times you try and tell it that isn't who you were looking for!) eventually led me to Kristy's IMDB and confirmed my suspicion. Kristy appeared in a martial arts movie called "The Ultimate Game", a movie that I was quite familiar with. Although I will stress the word quite, for reasons which will soon become abundantly clear.

Because what I then did was look through Kristy's short acting resume to try and find out which movie this scene came from. With only four other acting roles on her IMDB page, there was only one other movie which seemed a likely candidate, but the trailer for "Big City Knights" only showed Kristy for barely a second and all the action/fights were between guys.

So I spent about ten minutes contemplating this mystery, when a thought struck me. And I dug out my DVD of The Ultimate Game. And yes. That 'other' movie I was looking for containing this fight scene? Was the film that I already knew about. And have seen. And own a copy of.

To be fair, I've never really watched the movie in its entirety. I was aware it featured two F/F fight scenes that had been doing the rounds on the internet for a few years and so I had always been eager/hopeful to see if the movie contained any more F/F action. With that in mind, I picked up a copy a few years ago and fast-forwarded through all the "plot" and dude fights (and, as it turns out, that mixed fight!) in the hope of finding just one more treasure. But no. Nothing.

Which is all the more frustrating, given the set-up. The two F/F fights we do see are clearly part of the tournament itself, albeit presumably for the female competitors. Kristy plays Lisa, an old friend of the movie's hero, [Only Registered Users Can See LinksClick Here To Register]. The other F/F battle shows a blonde fighter who is clearly portrayed as the 'bad girl', demonstrated by the way she [Only Registered Users Can See LinksClick Here To Register]. So surely at this point, everything is set up for a final fight between these two women, yes?

Nope After her victory, the blonde is never seen or referenced again. And the only time we see Kristy's character for the rest of the movie is her watching the final fight between two blokes and getting a medal - because from what I can tell, the tournament is fought between teams so not everyone fights in every round, or some utter tosh like that.

What a wasted opportunity...

Hi there. I can see you're not moaning at me, so don't worry! I'm neither being defensive NOR going on the offensive. But I'll add my two penn'orth as it was my post that prompted your dissatisfaction.

Firstly, I hope you didn't waste too much time searching for the title. A few of my regulars like to probe the dark recesses of their memories, or just hazard a guess at the source. But if you'd rather not bother, just ask; I rarely keep secrets. And I too found Google's insistence on directing me to 'Kirstie Alley' bloody annoying! But there's one part of your post that I don't get - this bit:

I fully understand the main frustration of F/F fight lovers with movie scenes, being that they're hardly ever allowed to reach a conclusion. Script writers have many ways of bringing things to a halt before the pretty girls get really hurt. But the favourite is to send in a guy to drag and hold them apart like squabbling 3-year-olds. So I'm onside with you there. But that doesn't happen in this movie.

A second problem we all share is when filmmakers tease us and then don't deliver. Trust me, F/M lovers suffer too; often a woman's kick-ass credentials are established in the opening scene, then... nothing.

But to get to my point, what has this got to do with your disinterest in F/M? Again, I'm not moaning - just curious. It's a tournament with mainly M/M combat and a couple of F/F fights thrown in. And you're understandably disappointed there wasn't a big F/F finale. But why would that turn you off F/M when aren't any mixed gender bouts?

Yeah, honestly I misworded that completely. What I was trying to convey was how I'm clearly so indifferent to F/M fighting that I wasn't even aware there was an F/M fight in a movie which I had already seen and even own. Essentially, it wasn't the post itself which brought that 'revelation' to the fore, but everything that I subsequently did as a result of seeing the post.

And no, I wasn't dwelling on it for too long. Though it's fortunate Kristy only appeared in very few movies, cos who knows how long I might have spent searching for a fight I already own! The even bigger irony being that the only reason I was even seeking out the source of the fight was on the offchance that it might have some F/F action in there too!

I'm sure at some point, I would have asked you for the source. Which in itself, might have been a somewhat confusing question for you; "Hey, I recognise Kristy from The Ultimate Game. Can you tell me where this fight comes from?"
