The first scene I mentioned is briefly re-capped below as well. In a wonderful set-up, China is proving its cultural and physical superiority by arranging a 'To The Death' martial arts bout. On one side we have two kidnapped decadent Western male karate champions. Opposing them is a Chinese female judo black belt - who has promised to defeat the two of them using only their own specialism of karate. She wins! |

Re: Mainstream Mixed Fight Images - mostly M/F
I really enjoy it when this happens...
I take a random punt on a cheap DVD that looks and reads like a pile of derivative crap, and it turns out to be exactly that. Then Joy Oh Joy! - striding through the whole dung heap comes a physically impressive, but still attractively feminine, gutsy heroine to save the day. Here, take a first glimpse of her as she's threatened by a military guy with a gun. He wants the McGuffin she's just found in a cave, but she's not for giving it up. Every time she appeared alongside (or should that be 'towered above') a male opponent, I knew that if it came to fisticuffs, there would only be one winner. And so it proved. To be fair, the feature was beautifully filmed overall. But, as is often the case, our heroine's reflexes in the fight scenes were too rapid for the goon, the cameraman and yours truly. Anyway, here she puts down the Treasure Box [1-2]; easily robs him of the gun [3-7]; twists his arm painfully [8-11]; and then finishes him off with the Fight Choreographer' nightmare move (and mine) - a vicious Headbutt Knockout [12-18]. |

Oh look! The next militia guy has a much bigger gun; it makes her so scared she immediately surrenders [1].
Yeah, right. Once more an intimidated soldier has to lift his head upwards to meet her eyes with his. But it is still a very big gun. So think quick, girl! Ah, she's got an idea [3-4]. "Would you like to see some sexy pictures of me from my modelling days? You would? That's great! Here, let me hold that big gun for you, so you can take a proper look." [5-7] And so, once again she relieves her opponent of his gun in a literal () blur of action [8-13]. 'Like taking candy from a baby', as they say. But this time, instead of a headbutt, she decks him with a knee to the midriff [14-17]. She won't find things so easy when it's the turn of the final soldier, though. Can you guess why? |

Thankfully, after quickly assessing each other, they both decide to take their chances unarmed, throwing the automatic weapons aside. OK girls; let's wrestle! ...or box, if you prefer. And kick. But there's a Part Two on the way when we get a bit of grappling action. |

Incidentally, the reason our heroine doesn't shoot the soldiers (once she's relieved them of their guns) isn't just to get the filmmakers a kiddie-friendly Certificate. It's because, despite her fatigues and combat skills, she isn't a military bod herself. So to kill them like that would have her categorised - and subsequently chased down - as a cold-blooded murderess. It's much better to leave them where she knocked them out, After all, what are the chances they'll tell the CO back at base... "And then the nice unarmed lady, who took all our weapons and kicked the crap out of us, must have given them back before she left us there unconscious." Anyway, at the end here she delivers a good old ground and pound - even though the images look like she finished the job with a single punch rather than a flurry. "Now, where did I leave my Thingamajig-In-A-Box?" |

Postscript: I know I said that was all of the FvF fight, but I didn't want to leave the following question hanging:
Quote:
Instead, she places her booted foot in the crook of his elbow and drags his forearm away from the Treasure Box. Then she twists the same arm violently (not sure if that arm is left broken, but he's certainly in a lot of pain). Then she picks up the wooden box, tucks it under her arm, and runs off into the distance for more adventures. Quote:

Re: Mainstream Mixed Fight Images - mostly M/F
Right then, let's move on to something new - featuring the always Fighting Fit Hilary Swank. And she's going to need all those muscles to have a chance of fending off the Big Bearded Bad Bloke. As well as drugging her drink, the element of surprise is in his favour when he sneaks up and grabs her from behind. Let's see what transpires.
"Look out Hilary!" Too late; he pushes the heroine onto the bed and climbs on top to strangle her. Which, of course, gives him the further advantages of gravity and the lack of leverage she'll get from a soft mattress. "Hey, Psycho Dude; Sure you don't want to tie all four limbs to the bed and blindfold her too? Y'know, just in case the poisoned lady tries to fight back or something?" Ah look - he should have listened to me. Despite everything being against her, she's still too strong for him. She returns the compliment by gripping his neck in her hands; lifts her knees up; and launches him backwards off the bed and across the room. She closely follows him so he has no time to recover, quickly adopting the Feminine Superior Position. It looks like she's a better wrestler than him too. So we leave things with him praying that the stuff in her drink knocks her out before she can do exactly that to him. |

Re: Mainstream Mixed Fight Images - mostly M/F
Hilary is both an accomplished actress and a handful in a physical tussle. But the problem here is that she's starring in a serious 'Woman in Peril' story. And that means too much realism for a fantasy fight guy like me. But let's take a glimpse at what happens after that last bit of grappling.
The villain slugs her, and she can't hang around because the drug is taking effect. She escapes, with Beadle trying to hold onto her leg. He catches her in the kitchen where they invoke the old 'Utensils as Weapons' trope. Some more wrestling takes place, and then my alarm rings... !!!Stuntwoman Alert!!! Yes, there she is in the final screenshot from that scene, looking facially nothing like the actress. Still, I can't blame them; as I said, she's game in a fight - but being dragged backwards off a high dining table was probably a bit too risky for the insurers. Never mind, though; I've added a bonus for Sweat Fetishists. These promo pics from an earlier scene were all titled on Google: "Hilary Swank is covered in sweat as she films her new movie." Mmmm. |

Re: Mainstream Mixed Fight Images - mostly M/F
Here's a scene from a new release for you. An armed henchwoman enters the hero's home, with her henchman partner close behind. Remember Mr. Henchie - he's going to become important later on.
Anyway, the dopey personality-free star of the show knows she's coming, and a fight ensues. At the end of this sequence, we get the rarity (certainly in my threads) of a Male-on-Female judo throw. I was about to commend the actress for doing the somersault stunt herself. But then I looked her up out of interest, and realised she's been doing stuff like that for around 10 years now. Doh! It must have been the ginger nut that fooled me, because when I posted her only other movie appearance, she was blonde. Maybe the Director did this to brighten up a filming set that was as colourless as the hero was characterless. |
