After Pena defeated Nunes, it seems to have been a quiet couple of months for WMMA in the UFC, but business is about to pick up with some exciting match ups to look forward to in the coming weeks / months.

The next fight I'm excited to see is the "grudge match" between Mariya Agapova and Maryna Moroz. This fight is at 125lbs and is scheduled for UFC 272 on March 5th.

Agapova's side of the story:

How about Carla Esparza "winning" back the 115 title.

The fight was a dud. But can you say it was a good enough performance to take a girl's belt? I don't think you can.

There has generally been a precedent in title fights that close rounds will go the way of the champion.

Think of fights like Nunes/Shevchenko 2, Jones/Reyes, GSP/Hendricks, Rosa/Joanna 2 and Rose/Weili 2 ... Some argue these fights could have gone either way but ultimately I've always supported the belief that to dethrone a champion and win a title, you need a definitive performance.

So Rose probably thought she could "get away" with doing very little and the judges would award those rounds to her.

It's shocking that fighters can put in so much training and dedication only to show so little desire on fight night.

I like Rose very much but she did almost nothing in this match. She threw her punches from 3 feet distance, she jumped around all the time ,shadow boxing but hardly connecting a punch. Carla didn't do so much either but she at least tried to take rose down a couple of times.
One of the poorest championship matches I have ever seen.

Whatever next... Sara McMann, stand-up comedienne.

Not sure what to think if this was the highlight of the act. She implies the rest of the act is not as "clean".

22nd October. UFC 280. She's fighting Katlyn Chookagian.

Fiorot has an interesting stand-up, pressuring style that not a lot of other girls have. And she's hard to take down.

Chook is a big girl for the division at 5'9, long legs, and likes to stick and move. Good at fighting backwards, good at point fighting and winning rounds.

She struggled to get past Joanne Calderwood though, lost to Jessica Eye and most recently struggled to nick a split decision from Amanda Ribas. I thought Ribas won that fight, personally and showed a lot more aggression.
Chook was also stopped by Andrade and Shevchenko. She's got nothing for Shevchenko so it's in the sport's best interest to see Fiorot win but Chook is a tricky customer due to her length and point fighting style.
