Default Heat Wave In The UK

The temperature in London was forecast to hit 38C on Tuesday------suffering snakes, thats hot!
The U.S. can handle heat waves like this a little better because of air condtioning everywhere,in houses, apartments, stores, cars, office buildings, etc.
Be well over there our UK friends and be safe.

Cool Re: Heat Wave In The UK

Indeed for the native islanders it should be quite an unusual occurence and I do feel for them.
However there is something good about it.
The people who came to live in the UK from the more arid and hot
climate zones should finally start to feel at home.

It hasn't affected me much personally, apart from the discomfort, but there have been a number of consequences around the country:

Major sporting fixtures being cancelled or shortened.
Fire Brigades having their busiest day since World War 2.
Drivers told to only make essential journeys.
Schools and public buildings being shut (generally our ventilation systems are poor).
Royal Mail (Postal Service) quitting at lunchtime (or earlier) when temperature passed 35C (Trade Union agreement I guess).
Wildlife Parks closed so the staff can concentrate on keeping the animals alive - leading to those cute pics of little critters eating ice cream etc.

And, for some unknown reason, high and low temperatures in the UK always feel more extreme than elsewhere. I remember Canadians visiting here saying they didn't believe the given temperature, because it felt so much colder. I think that one was explained by a "Wind Chill Factor".

But yesterday I heard a cricket commentator say "Being from Sri Lanka, I shouldn't complain; but this is far too hot for me."

More on-topic, I doubt there were many sessions going on over here yesterday.

BTW Not 38C. More than 40.

de "Vierdaagse of Nijmegen" was cancelled yesterday but has started as we speak.
always wondered why people are marching 30, 40 or 50 km in one day, four days long, in the full heat of the july sun.
after each day, they have to take care of the blisters.

And to think there was a certain politician in the U.S. that said that climate change was a hoax.

I invested in an AC unit years ago. 2016 I believe. It's nice to have it when you need it same as snow tyres on my car.

Far too much BBC News for some people though. Now it's not Covid but the heat that's gonna get you!!! Stay in, feel the fear, it might git ya!!

Because the heat actually was dangerous. Mass fires across the country directly attributable to the heat and a clear example.of climate change in action.

I didnít say it wasnít potentially dangerous. So is snow, so is cold and catching viruses.

You take precautions, use your loaf without being a ninny.
