Default Grrrl passes on Peņa

Grrrl CEO, Kortney Olson, loves a good trash-talker, but highly-ranked contender Julianna Peņa crossed the line with her reference to Ronda Rousey's "fat arms", so Grrrl made the decision to withdraw its sponsorship offer.

Not sure what line she crossed. I thought it was a rather funny comment obviously looking to get attention.
I guess Ronda has never crossed the line - lol

I know what you're saying and I personally don't think Pena went out of her way to find a reporter to trash Ronda to, but as the boss, KO has the right to determine the standards for her brand. If you're familiar with her career and some of her philosophies, then you may find this position to be completely consistent with what she has espoused publicly since developing her "Konfidence By Kortney" training and mentoring concepts.

That said, I think all these women have bright futures ahead.

Fat shaming is a crock of shit, especially in the world of MMA. People getting "all up in their feelz" over this are being silly.

Ultimately Kortney can do what she wants with her business. That's the way it goes. I personally feel she's making a mistake sponsoring MMA women to begin with. Those in the UFC are shackled by the Reebok contract and the likes of Holly and Rose don't do a lot of social media anyway. Plus the female fans of these women are not necessarily into training / fitness themselves, thus will not buy "Grrl" clothing. If I didn't know any better (which I don't) I wouldn't be surprised to learn that Kortney couldn't afford to sponsor Julianna and is using this as a convenient reason to pull out.

I think KO took down that posting. Maybe Julianna apologized? But Pena also trashed Holly Holm earlier saying "harmless Holly couldn't hurt a fly"...and Holly's also sponsored by Grrrl. Was surprised to learn they were sponsoring Julianna too.

I applaud this decision. KO doesn't fuck around!

Cyborg and Kortney should have a ruck (in Japan with no drug testingl). Kortney could probably give Cyborg as good a fight as some of these blown up flyweights and cans she has been fighting over the past few years.

Personally I don't salute the decision. Cyborg's actions were not "widely condemned" by the fight community. In fact, an overwhelming majority of fighters and fans supported Cyborg and have been scathing towards Angela.

Kortney should, at the very least, pay Cyborg for work already done. This just makes her and her company look cheap. I looked at the replies to her statement on twitter and most were negative and in support of Cyborg. This is not reflecting well on Grrrl at all.

We don't know this, since it depends on the terms of their agreement. Maybe KO already did pay Cyborg. Maybe she will, since she hasn't said that she won't. Can't jump to conclusions on this without knowing details.

While most fighters supported Cyborg, there were also those who condemned her. The fact that Magana is extremely disliked by the fighting community for her antics is what made most people side with Cyborg, despite Cyborg not being very popular among fighters herself. I feel they would support anyone who would punch Magana.

At the end of the day what Cyborg did was wrong. We are living in a civilized society. You can't punch people in the face unless it is for self defense, or consensual. While it feels good to violate this rule sometimes, eventually it is for the good of everyone that this is illegal. If you choose to violate the law, you have to be ready to pay the consequences.

This has been pinned on top of Cyborg's twitter page for a few days now.

Granted she broke the law when she punched Magana, but there's a strong consensus that provoking/bullying is equally unacceptable and not too many tears are shed when a bully gets their comeuppance via a smack.

An overwhelming majority of the fight community has rallied behind Cyborg and from I'm reading on social media, I think her approval rating is the highest it has ever been.
