BJJ is the great equalizer and Beatrice would have been dominated if both were in their prime. The best is always before BJJ skills became too good.

Josephine was better then Helen when they first met. By the end Helen was better, solely because she was stronger.
I saw Xana beat Nadege at DWW and Amazons. I'm talking about real competitive matches not the tribing and catfight nonsense they did together. They were best friends so it's hard to know if they really went all out against each other. IMO, Xana was the best pound for pound wrestler of her time. Her losses came early in her career at DWW (vs Edita and Zsuzsa), but later won the International Cup in 2005 beating the much larger Viktoria and Tiffany. The only time I saw her get dominated was by the much larger Kassidy. Even in that much she had a 2-0 lead until Kassidy finally over powered her with her 6+ inch height advantage and probably had a good 40lbs on her as well. Her matches with Ariel, Robin and Veve were very close and could have gone either way, but to me Veve is the only female in her weight class that had better BJJ skills.

I really liked Josephine. Her match against Tatjana L is one of my favorite in ring competitive matches of all time. I just loved seeing the DWW/BSA girls trying their best with their free style/mma skills to wrestle the Virago girls at the Women's Wrestling conventions. Like you said, that was before they became too good with their BJJ skills and it went from fun anything can happen wrestling match to boring methodical submission jiu-jitsu snooze fest.

That's too bad, I would've loved to watch her match vs Lenora.

It's interesting that she posted this photo art of Edita from DWW. Their match at the 1999 San Diego convention was another classic.

Do we think Kathy could have brought HVM to submission if they wrestled while both in their primes?

I think Kathy was around 5'6 and 135 or less. Helen is listed in Wrestle Wiki as 5'8 and 155 though she was pretty muscular and bulky at times so definitely would have a weight advantage on Kathy. Feel like this would be a good fight.
It would be a close match, but like I said earlier, once Helen got the BJJ black belt she became just too good. Kind of like Veve Lane now a days, not only can she submit you in all kinds of ways, but she was an expert defensively. On top of that, she became too strong and muscular. At the first wrestling convention (where she wrestled Denise) she was only 138 lbs, by 2004 she was pushing 160 and was all muscle. What made Kathy great was her submission skills. She wrapped around her opponents like an octopus and once she got you in a choke hold, it was over.

PS-The change in Helen from the 1st to the 2nd convention. She looked like a cyborg in 1999.

Goffin's arms are at least as powerful as Helen's. Goffin's scissors are extremely effective. Helen would despair, squeezed by Goffin`s steely legs.

An example of just how good Helen was (vs. a very strong Christine Rocks).

Yes they were - Carolina Backyard Catfights
But they were trying to make it fun and surprisingly attracted some good wrestlers Helen, Kyla, Dakota, Burdick if I remember correctly.....

I had a session with Helen many years ago. She’s know as an excellent grappler (which she most definitely is). But let ne tell you she hits hard af. She laid into me and I was seeing stars. Not sure how I stayed conscious.

Can anyone name all the Virago wrestlers (outside of the obvious... Helen and Josephine) in this photo?

The full story can be found in her dedicated thread in the General Discussion Forum.

Here's the point at which her current troubles (inc. homelessness) were first mentioned. But I think you'll need to go to the thread itself to see how things have unfolded over the subsequent pages.
