Like other cash for personal services jobs, probably most of SW is in the underground economy and a lot of tax can be avoided. It may pay to have some job in the regular economy or to report some SW income in order to collect SS down the road. But most can be unreported - like a waitress in a high end restaurant or a nanny.

There are people who do leave cash tips in high-end restaurants. But you're talking about a very slim percentage of the overall spend in those restaurants. Check out the W-2 of a high-end restaurant server. Hardly high-end, but many Starbucks even report almost 100% of cash tips.

In most restaurants in the U.S. whether they are high end or low end, most diners using a credit card write the tip on the tab after it is presented to them. The charge tip is then put on the paycheck of the server and gets taxed. To help out the server,a customer can put a dash thru the tip box and tip the server in cash.

In spite of this, brave women take on this journey, because that's what life requires from them. A woman can make enough to support herself, and if she's good, sometimes enough to support someone else. There are no rich session wrestlers. But we are all rich, because we have them.
At the risk of sounding like a sycophant, that's possibly one of the best lines I've read on this forum, and a very good summing up of the scene. You are correct.

Indeed...To do session wrestling with skills and sincerity is such a complex and exhausting work, with deeply rewarding moments but also a lot of difficulties.
And the dedication and struggles cannot be truly evalued money-wise, as there are so many things and feelings at stake.
