Default Quality Of Photos
Do photos, I mean jpg and bmp files, go bad with time? Do they get duller? Can something be done to correct this? I use a Mac computer and it looks like this happened to my photos.

No, your files are exactly the same. What has happened is that your older files are much lower quality than the kind of pictures you would take today and now you are looking at them on a screen with much higher resolution so you can see the imperfections much clearer and are also comparing them to the quality of current pictures.
